Neurologist check-up

The time came to have Maxim checked with the neurologist. The issue is with his facial nerve partially paralized on the right side of his face. It does not affect him in any other way than making his smile a bit more charming, but it is an anomaly that should be doctor supervised.

Dr.Simos arranged an appointment for us with the collegue of his. Maxim was checked all from top to bottom – his eyes’ movement, his hands’ grip, rubber hammer was used upon his knees, heels, and elbows, he was touched, patted, sitted, turned around and smiled at.

It seems that all of his reactions are normal. There are no other traces of neurological disbalance. There will be more tests to see if the cause of the paralysis – misplaced pressure somewhere – has gone or not. If it’s not – that we will have to take care of it. Otherwise, some vitamines and massage will correct the situation.

Although we’ll be having more medical examinations unleash on Maxim, I for one feel a bit less worried. It doesn’t look like a major problem and there are good chances of curing it too.

Vision check

We took Maxim for his first routine vision check today. The doctor seemed nice and kind. Lots of books, journals and certificates in his office created the impression of a good specialist. He also had some geeky looking equipment that he wasn’t afraid to use.

Maxim’s eyes seem to work fine. He can see with both of them. How good he can see is a totally other question. And it is not meant to be answered now. The kid is too young for the tests like this.

Anyway, we’re satisfied.

While checking Maxim’s eyes, doc discovered a very small scratch on Maxim’s right eye. It’s a fresh one too. He wrote the prescription for some antiseptic eye drops and suggested to visit him in five days. We agreed.

I guess it’s that scratch itching that results in Maxim’s rubbing his eyes every once in a while. Especially when he eats. Causing the total mess everywhere. Whatever.

Wet kiss

Wet kiss

Olga and I went to the beach together today. Usually we are taking turns – either she goes or I. Today was my turn, but Olga decided to join us so that she could have a swim or two. The thing is, Maxim is changing his sleeping habbits once again and he is not sleeping while at the beach anymore. Before he did and we could enjoy the sea while he was doing so. Not anymore. I don’t mind much, but Olga – she does. She misses the water.

Anyway, since we were all together, I used the opportunity to make a bunch of pictures. Who knows when we will be swimming together next time. The summer slowly comes to an end.

P.T.

Maxim is doing a lot of physical training. He always did, but it seems that with every new skill he learns, the variety of his muscle building excersises grows. He spent a lot of time learning to roll over. Than, when he could do that, he started practicing crawling and sitting. Now that he can do both of those he tries new things.

Sit-ups is one of his favourites. He is trying to bring himself into a sitting position every time he ends up on his back. He either uses his elbows or his toes. And its the toes that amaze me. I mean, he only need to grab something with his toes to bring his upper body up! How much power does he have in there?

His second most favourite thing is vertical explorations. He craws to a couch or a chair and uses his hands to bring himself into a vertical position, while standing on his knees. That gives him a new point of view and that, in turn, stimulates more practicing. He even goes as far as attempting to stand up on his feet, but those attempts resulted in nothing more than hard falls. Boy, I should warn you – we aren’t that fast in catching things your mama and I.

In the meantime, all I can practice – with my still damaged hand – is diperball. When we are at the beach and I change Maxim’s diper, I have to dispose the old one. And the garbage bin is about 30 meters away. Being a lazy bastard that I am, there is no surprise in me trying to avoid this walk. I throw the diper into the garbage bin instead.

I have yet to succeed in avoiding that walk (every time I miss, I have to go and pick it up and throw it into the bin). The weather conditions (read: wind) change from day to day. The number of attempts is rather limited – one per day. And the diperball constitution is different from day to day – either totally empty, or mildly full, or very full.

I’m getting close though. The last to days – the diperball hit the bin on the edge and fell. It fell out, not in though.
