Yet another ultrasound examination

Today Olga went for the second ultrasound examination. Of course, I’ve accompanied her to get all the juicy details and see the kid for myself. According to examination, everything goes as planned. Everything is normal and the baby is growing good. The baby is about 370 grams now. They are able to determine weight by measuring the size of differnt parts of the body, like head diameter and leg bones length.

The important discovery was that according to this examination we are going to have a boy. Don’t you just love the technology? :)

Yet another video tape was recorded and plenty of screenshots were made. I will scan the pictures shortly (as soon as Alex will give me back his scanner). Digitizing video tape seems to be problematic for now due to differences in PAL/SECAM/NTSC/etc. We are still working on the way to do it and as soon as we’ll have it I’ll upload it here for you to enjoy.

On naming a baby

For some time now, Olga and I are not trying to agree on a name for our baby. It seems that we every name that she likes, I cannot stand. Every name that is OK with me, she hates. We managed to locate a few names which don’t cause any major reactions on anyone’s part, but those will need to be sorted out to.

In order to minimize the amount of drama in this area, we decided to wait until we know the gender of the kid. That will cut half of the names right there. And that should happen somewhere around 18th of October, during our second major ultrasound test. The only indication we had so far was “It looks like a boy, but you’ll know it on ultrasound examination.”. Heh, we’ll see.

Meanwhile, I came across a website with lots and lots of examples of bad names for kids. Check it out here.

Ultrasound examination

FaceToday, early in the morning, Olga and I went for the ultrasound examination. Olga’s internals were checked and everything seems to be OK – liver, kidneys, bowels, and stuff. The baby is doing very well too. In fact it is much bigger than it was supposed to be. And that is because the length of the pregnancy was miscalculated a bit. We are one and a half weeks older. To be exact, we are 14 weeks and 4 days.

For this reason, we couldn’t test for Down syndrome. Down syndrome test requires the check to be between 10th and 14th weeks. But the chances that we’ve got it are small anyways. The next check will be between 10th and 20th of October. During that time, baby’s heart, brain, and other internal’s will be checked.

Today it was impossible to determine baby’s gender, because he or she was always closing the legs or putting hands in there. The baby was moving quiet alot too. I was very suprised…

There is a video tape with the whole examination on it. I gave it to Hazard who kindly agreed to digitize it. As soon as he will finish, I’ll upload the mpeg here. More screenshots are available here.

We are pregnant!

5 weeks10 weeksMost of the people who know Olga and me are not even waiting for this anymore, but it happened – we are pregnant! I mean, Olga is, but I am involved to no limits. :)

Actually, we were keeping this secret for some time now. We wanted to be as sure as possible that everything goes the right way. It is 10th week now and we have been checking with the doctor today for the second time. So far everything is going great. Ultrasound pictures from the 5th week and today are attached to the left and right (blue thingy is to point out the baby, done by me).

Now that the news are out, I’ll be regularly posting updates about what is happening.

P.S.: For all the computer geeks that are still trying to figure out what am I talking about here, think “fork”. :)
