Lamp

Lamp

I am still sick and uninspired. I have yet again made a picture of the tungsten light bulb. I know that I did something similar less than a month ago, but it seems I have a fascination for tungsten. Older picture was taken with the crappy camera in my phone. Today’s version was taken with my Digital Rebel and postprocessed in Gimp. It is that only after postprocessing I have remembered that I took a similar picture recently, and I started wondering what is wrong with me. And it came to me – I am sick. Did I say that already? Oh, that’s because I am … nevermind.

On another note, today is the start of the 3rd month that I am doing my ‘Picture of the day’ project. It is pretty much a routine by now. It is neither hard or time consuming. Still educational though.

Yet on another note, today’s picture is sequentially numbered 9999 by Digital Rebel. That means that I had taken 10,000 pictures with my camera in less than a year. There were few other cameras that I used through the course of the year. The number sounds impressive. At least to me.

The Patriot Games

Watched “Patriot Games” on DVD. This is a really good action movie. The old type of action, though. The kind where bad guys piss off the good guy, shoot him, threaten his family, etc, and than this good guy stands up and goes to kick some bad guy’s butt.

Apart from being very predictable and going along the usual lines, this film is very good. It has a good story, wraps everything around CIA and politics, which looks very timely, has a bunch of celebraties (Harrison Ford, Sean Bean, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones) and it does provide for a good entertainment.

I’ll rate this film as 7 out of 10 as it is everything it was supposed to be. Worth a rent surely.

Fedora Linux Core 3 is out

Fedora Project has announced the release of Fedora Linux Core 3. As usual, all software packages has been updated with lots of bugfixes and new features. It should be faster, better, user friendlier, and blah blah blah…

I am downloading it currently using BitTorrent at excellent speeds of 500+ KBytes/s. I will upload it then to Thunderworx ftp server. If you are in Cyprus, you better wait until it will appear there, so you will be downloading it at faster speeds. If you are outside of Cyprus – I am sorry, FTP server is firewalled for you.

Update (9 Nov 2004 18:25): Ok, it is up at Thunderworx FTP server. Also, read the Release Notes.

Invincible

Watched “Invincible” on DVD. This was one piece of crap. Never ever rent or buy this piece. You’ll be better.

It is some strange arrangement of bad parodies on martial arts, superheros, and gay smiles that was supposed to be shown on TV. Well, I don’t know if it ever made it to the screen, but I am really sorry if it did. Things like this should be kept in private collections of those people who produce them. And they should be guarded more than any biggest family secret.

Not only this film fails to delivery anything on the martial arts (no matter how hard it tries) and superheros (although it has more than 5), it makes the whole watching while very long, boring, and painful experience. And I mean painful. Especially for the eyes. With all those stroboscopes. (What is with people and stroboscopes these days?). I mean, I really had to put my eyes on the lightnings of the thunderstorm outside for them to rest.

Verdict: 2 out of 10. If they will give you a choice of torture and of watching this film – choose the torture. This film should be only seen if you life is in absolute danger. No other reason counts! :)
