Smack my head

One of Maxim’s latest activities is smacking his own head. Unlike many other children that I read about, he doesn’t do it with his bare hands. Never. He uses toys. The harder the toy, the better. After about the second smack he understands that the toy connected to his hand introduces some painful experiences. Guess what he does. No. Nope. Wrong again. He uses his second hand to catch the toy in flight. He would be twice more effecient if he would keep his eyes open when he does so…

The whole process is so funny that noone can actually do anything about it. We all almost die laughing every time he does it. Imagine a baby kid with a hard plastic toy in one hand, which he tries to use to hit himself on the forehead. While doing so he closes his eyes and tries to catch the nasty weapon with his other hand. He rearly succeeds. Hahaha… Oh, wait! He is doing it right now!

5 month old

Maxim. 5 month old.

Maxim is five month old today. Wow. Time flies indeed.

He is still learning a bunch of new things every day. His persistence amazes me. There is nothing he can’t learn. He tries something new, if it does work he tries it again. And again. And again. And again. He gets tired – he comes back to it tomorrow, like he never tried it before. Nothing can stop him. Nothing.

Maxim in the water

Maxim in the water

Thanks to his grandmother, Maxim was going to the beach every single day during the last two weeks. Today I went together with them to see how the whole thing is happening. The idea was to inherit the experience, so that I could do this with Maxim on my own.

If I knew how cold the water is, I’d be against these sea bathing from the very beginning, but I seem to have missed the best time and now the kid has pretty much got used to it. I went into the water and it felt like a slow execution. I don’t know how come that this water measures +26 degrees because it’s freezing. And I was not alone who thought this way as only a selected few people from a rather crowded beach felt like sweeming.

Visited Jumbo

We went to Jumbo kids’ superstore today. The primary goal of our quest was a high chair for Maxim. We estimated that we’ll spend about 50 CYP on it. Few miscelanious items, such as plates and spoons were our secondary goal. Two hours after we entered the shop, we left without a high chair and without 70 CYP…

As usual, we bought everything and anything except for what we really needed. And with most of the items priced between .50 CYP and 3 CYP it’s really easy to fill the shopping cart with all sorts of junk.

I might sound sad and greedy, but I am not. Usually I forget about all the prices with the first smile on that little face. But he slept through most of the shopping and still is. I’m sure that when he will wake up and smile, I will forget everything once again.

Solid food

Yesterday, when I wrote about Maxim’s first food I of course meant his first solid food. It’s just that I didn’t know that solid food is called solid food in English. The direct translation from Russian is “solid” indeed, but when I was writing the post, I wasn’t sure that I could the word “solid” to describe food. And I was too lazy to check in the dictionary. Today, when I was replying to a comment for that post, I noticed the Google Adsense banner which was promoting some “solid food” website. I checked the site, double checked in the dictionary, and it was indeed – “solid” food.

Either I am being too smart or too stupid. I don’t know.

P.S.: Maxim seems to really enjoy his new diet.
