How far can you throw this?

Maxim has acquired a new skill – throwing. For a long time now he was dropping things, studying the effects of gravity forces. He would pick up something, move it up and release it then, watching how different items fall differently. If an item (like a sock) would get stuck somewhere, Maxim usually picked it up again and dropped it again, just to see the completed path.

These last couple of days he realized that throwing things (in other words, applying force and direction) is much more fun. The concept is new to him and provides for the most entertainment. So far he doesn’t even care where the object will fly and how far. Just the idea of supplying it with a lot of force is fullfilling. After every launch Maxim laughs maniacally and applauds himself.

We have all kinds of things flying all over the place now. Everything you could imagine from toys and books to socks and plates. It feels like being in the cheap war action movie or a family scandal comedy. Really. That much fun.

And then there are more teeth coming…

Moments

Being a parent is a lot about having moments. Every day. Every hour. There is something that you want to remember for the rest of your life. (That’s impossible, by the way.) There are moments that you wish the whole world shared with you. (That’s impossible too, by the way.) There are moments that you miss and then fill miserable for missing. (That’s possible.)

I was at work today when Olga called in to tell me about two moments that I missed. (She does that pretty often, I have to say.)

The Lockdown

Starting from today, we’ll be on permanent home lockdown. Gone are the times, when our front door was open day and night. Never did we lock it no matter where we were – inside or outside. But that is gone. At least for those times when we are inside the house.

Sound weird to you? Well, the reason is rather simple. Maxim learned how to open the door and how to walk of it. He did it by accident yesterday. Today though he does it with more comfort and confidence than Olga and I combined. It almost looks like he installed this door himself.

So we’ll have to lock the gate the outside world. He can still watch it through the windows. And he’ll figure out the computer is connected to a global network pretty soon. And when there is a world at your knees, who needs to go outside?
