Picture of the day

Olga and I went for a walk on a seaside promenade in tourist area today. I didn’t want to photograph anything, since I just finished with “Egyptian Bazaar”. But there was this boat with lights on the water and a nice reflection of it, and I had a tripod nearby, so I decided to try. I took a few shots, which looked nice on the LCD monitor, but which I threw away when I saw them on the screen. Apparently, the water wasn’t calm enough, so the boat came out blurry and the reflection wasn’t all that good.

I’ve also took a picture of promenade itself, forgetting to adjust the white balance for the flurescent ligts, and a another picture of my car which came out more or less OK.

Anyway, I did learn to pay more attention at the environment I am about to shoot. And I’ve got three pictures which are good enough for posting. The album is here.

Egyptian Bazaar

Those of you who passed by Limassol Municipal park recently have most probably noticed that there is something going on in there. The event is called “Egyptian Bazaar” and it is organized from October 8 until October 17, 2004. This event occupies a small fruction of the parkwith a few minishops selling all sorts of goods you would expect in the Port of Alexandria, Egypt. In other words, items such as leather wallets, sweet nuts, nargile, pieces of furniture, musical instruments, and clothes at very low prices and of doubtful quality. The main fun is of bargaining, for those who enjoy it. Others can watch those who enjoy the bargaining. Rather entertaining I must say.

Anyway, Olga and I walked around a bit, bought three packs of sweet nuts and made a few pictures. If you are in the area, I recommend you to pass by and enjoy the event. The entrance is free and you don’t have to buy anything.

Blackball

Watched “Blackball” on DVD. This is one of those average movies where you know everything before you’ve even seen it, but you still watch it because you have nothing better to do.

The story is something I’ve seen many times in other movies. Nobody becomes famous and he is so overwhelmed with it that all his relationships with friends, relatives, and women go down the hill. He than is pushed to realize that he is nothing without them, so he understands it, changes his attitudes back and everything happy ends.

The familliarity of cast was very mixed. Some actors are very well known, like James Cromwell and Alice Evans, others were not.

I’ll give this film a 6 out of 10, which is leaping into 5.5 out of 10. Get something else if you have a choice.

Editing image EXIF comments in KDE

It turns out that viewing EXIF data and editing image comments is a breeze using KDE’s file manager Konqueror. All you need to do is right-click on the image and select Properties from context menu. Meta Info tab will contain all EXIF data from the image. You will also notice that you can change the content of the Comment area. Type in your comment and press OK button. Presto! Your input was saved as EXIF data inside the image.

‘Day of Delights” in Pafos, Cyprus

According to Cyprus New Association, the Municipality of Geroskipou (Pafos area) is organizing an event around cooking the biggest loukoumia (also known as Greek delight) in the world and getting on the pages of the Guiness Book of Records. The event starts today with the preparations and cooking this huge thing and will continue until Sunday 17th of October, 2004.
