Thank God for the Internet

Today I had one of those “Thank God for the Internet!” moments.  Maxim, while going through his pile of toys, found my old Casio watch.

Surprisingly, the battery was still running, the time was accurate, and even the display light was working.   He played with the watch for a few minutes, clicking all buttons, checking the light in the dark, and doing all sorts of things kids do to old watches.

Nobody knows how, but he managed to setup an hourly time signal.  It’s that annoying little beep that sounds every hour on the hour.  Needless to say, the user interface is far from perfect and it is practically impossible to figure it out without a manual.  So here comes my “Thank God for the Internet!” moment.

Backside of the watch contained all the information that I needed:

Casio 1572 A168 Stainless Steel Back Water Resistant Made In China

The manuals are online and the instructions to disable Hourly Time Signal are straight forward. I’m posting them here in case my grandkids will find this watch and the battery will still be going.

Dear women, I love you. Not only today.

Today is the International Women’s Day.  While it is getting more recognition worldwide in recent years, being Russian, I am used to having it as a public holiday since the USSR days.  This is the day to once again tell women how beautiful, smart, and appreciated they are.

Dear ladies, have a nice day!  Thank you for your smiles, for your charm, for your beauty, and for your inspiration.  The world wouldn’t be worth living in without you.

Sold domain – slonn.com

I’ve been buying domains for a few years now.  Every time I have an idea for a project, I go and buy a domain for it.  Sometimes the project idea actually gets implemented and lives for a while.  Most of the time I just put it on the shelf.  I keep domains for two-three years just in case I go back to the project and then I expire them.  A few domains I keep longer, in hopes of selling them later.   I sold a few domains before to clients of mine, but I’ve never sold anything to an unknown party.

Today I did.  Well, technically it took longer than just today.  But today the deal is officially closed.  I put one of my domains – slonn.com – on the auctions at GoDaddy and someone bought it for $500 USD.  While I could have bargained for a better price, I really didn’t want to.  It’s a 5-letter .com domain with no promotion, no prior website.  I had it for about 5 years.  I thought the price was about right and GoDaddy made the rest of the procedure ridiculously easy.

I have a few domains up for sale, but at the rate it goes, I don’t expect it to be my primary source of income any time soon.  Heck, it won’t even qualify for business by any measure.  Just a little extra PayPal cash.

Another job change – back to Forex

I’ve changed my job yet again.  I spent most of the last year working in shipping industry, and Forex it seems got jealous.  With that, I am back in the dynamic world of financial services.   Starting today, I am employed by FXCC (website is coming soon) – a brand new Limassol-based company.   I’m also glad to reunite with some of my FxPro friends there.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who I worked with at Tototheo Group.  Shipping was a new experience for me and I’ve learned a lot.  The kind and friendly atmosphere in the office is now my new benchmark to how much family-like a working environment can be.  I hope we’ll stay friends.
