Head of State

Feeling a need for a comedy, I watched “Head of State“. It is a very good film, which you wouldn’t want to watch a second time. As far as I can guess, it is culmination-like thing of Chris Rock‘s stand-by comedy shows.

The film goes through a very unlikely story of some good guy being picked up from the street and ran for president of the USA by a democratic party. But it is not the story which matters here. It’s all the little phrases that are spoken. In fact, this film is so full of excellent quotes that I felt a need to write them down once in a while.

If you want to see a sitcom or stand-up comedy show, but there is none on TV, then watch this film. It’s pretty much the same. Timings are good and music is, though not my favourite, fits nicely. I’ll give it an overall of 6 (floored from 6.5) out of 10.

P.S.: If you want to know more about Chris Rock, then there is a nice biography here.

P.P.S.: Every time he called “Security!” was hilarious. :)

The Hudsucker Proxy

There was nothing entertaining on TV, so I decided to watch a movie. “The Hudsucker Proxy” had the top rating from the heap, so I went for it.

It turned out to be excellent. I think IMDB is a bit off the line with “Comedy/Romance/Fantasy” thing. It is more like “Drama/Satire”. It is original and very stylish. It has this nice touch to it with everything you see. There is a lot of great acting from a number of famous people – Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Mahoney, and more.

The movie is filled with excellent classical music which is perfectly timed. It creates and changes atmoshere and film mood in just split seconds. Great work.

This is one of those rare films that deserve to be in the home collection. 9/10.

Where can I find schedule for K-Cineplex cinema in Cyprus?

“schedule of k-cineplex cyprus”

Schedule for K-Cineplex cinemas can be found at K-Cineplex website. If you don’t have Macromedia Flash plugin and cannot go around their stupid flash intro, then you can go directly to schedule page with this link. You can also get schedules via SMS as I have described in this post.

Gone in Sixty Seconds

Gone in Sixty Seconds” was on TV. I had to leave before the end to go to work, but I remember it pretty well from the time when I saw it in the cinema.

It’s a nice crime and action film, which lacks crime and action. It’s a film about great cars and their steallers, but there are not so many car chases and exciting driving. Pity.

Many famous people play in there – Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Robert Duvall,Vinnie Jones and few others. All this film lacks is some action and spice in the dialogs. Even Cage stayed away from his usual dramatic senbernar look (also known as Silvester Stallone look). It’s a pity when so little separates an averagely good film from a category killer.

6/10.

Iron Monkey

Having nothing better to do, I’ve watched “Iron Monkey” (also known as “Siunin Wong Fei-hung tsi titmalau”). It is an excellent chinese action with a nice story and brilliant martial arts. Even Olga like it. Considering the fact that it was made more than 10 years ago (1993) it has some really modern special effects. They are fun to watch even these days.

One of the reasons that I decided to watch it was that it had the highest rating on IMDB from a heap of movies I had around. Rarely do chinese action films go as high as 7.5/10. This film is so good that I am willing to confirm that rating. Go China! :)
