Next RoADS meeting has been scheduled

Next meeting of Road Safety and Advanced Driving Society (RoADS) has been scheduled for 19:00 on October 20th, 2005. The meeting will take place in The Haven Coffee Bar, Pafos. You can find the map and more information about the location here.

I am very interested in getting there, but with my schedule for October 20th I am not sure I will be able to. I’ll keep my fingers crossed though and maybe I will get lucky.

Renewed car insurance

This post is just for historical reasons, so you might want to skip.

I have renewed my car insurance today and paid 133 CYP. That’s 23 CYP more than I paid the last year, although the car and drivers are still the same, and there were no accidents for my insurance company to pay up. The reason for the increase I was told is country-wide and has something to do with matching insurance prices with the rest of Europe. I’ve heard this from other people before, so it might be true. Although I think that it has more to do with the continues grows of traffic accidents per person in this country. Insurance companies have to get money from somewhere to pay constantly.

Solar Eclipse

I’m not very much interested in astronomy and movement of spacial bodies, but when something major goes on I jump on the bandwagon and enjoy the show. Today I watched the partial show eclipse that happened around 13:00 and that I would have missed if it wasn’t for the guys in the office who went semi-insane about it.

In compliance with Murphy’s Law I didn’t have my camera with me and couldn’t make that authentic picture that you see above. But talking about solar eclipse without showing a picture is like eating French fries without ketchup, so I had to cheat. I draw the picture in Gimp and in my opinion it represents what I saw fairly good.

Independence of the Republic of Cyprus

Today is the 45th anniversary of Cyprus independence. It was back in 1960 that it got out of British colonial rule. If you’d like more information on the subject, check the Wikipedia page for Cyprus and the rest of the web.

I’m sure there will be plenty of celebrations across the island with parades and fireworks. Normally I would attend and make lots of pictures, but this year I have a different agenda planned. I am not sure that it will work out yet though because of the holiday, but stay tuned. If it will, you’ll be able to enjoy a lot of pictures anyway. Just of a different kind.
