Trying out “ulimit -s 2048” in /etc/rc.d/rc, as per this article. The default of 10MB for stack does indeed seem too high.

Happy birthday, Slashdot!
Slashdot, probably the most well-known technology news website, is celebrating its 15th birthday. Â I can’t say that I’ve been reading it for 15 years (yet), but I’m pretty close. Â If I remember correctly, Vladimir showed it to me some time back in 1998-1999. Â I’ve followed it since.
Even today, with all the multitude of tech blogs and news outlets, Slashdot is still important to me.  While you can get the same kind of news elsewhere, the discussions are still the reason to go back.  Some are funny, some are obligatory, but mostly are insightful comments that show the original article’s problem  space from different perspectives.
Happy birthday, Slashdot!

Racist archbishop
Cyprus Mail covers interesting commentary from the archbishop Chrysostomos II:
Asked if he would consider backing left-wing AKEL’s candidate Stavros Malas – the Archbishop has openly spoken out against the government’s communist approach – Chrysostomos said, “They have plenty of supporters; they don’t need me; although they may have reduced in numbers now”.
Pressed further if he would ever back a left-wing president, provided they had the same views, the Archbishop replied: “I would even back a black man, if we had the same views.“
I’d have to agree with AKEL here:
The statement was not well received by ruling party AKEL, which last night announced it was disappointed with the archbishop’s comments.
The party said it was of the impression that the head of the church should view all members of the flock equally, “whether they are right-wing, left-wing, black or white”.
That should be true for everyone, but especially so for the religious person, who’s lord created everyone equal.
The age of information. Not.
Who hasn’t heard the phrase “21st century is the age of information“? Â I think everybody heard it in this or that variation. Â Well, know that we have the context, let’s see what US Military thinks of WikiLeaks and Julian Assange:
The U.S. military has designated Julian Assange and WikiLeaks as enemies of the United States — the same legal category as the al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Taliban insurgency. Declassified US Air Force counter-intelligence documents, released under US freedom-of-information laws, reveal that military personnel who contact WikiLeaks or WikiLeaks supporters may be at risk of being charged with ‘communicating with the enemy.’
