What makes a perfect business. Or even a person.

Nicely said:

To me, the perfect business, [maybe it’s the perfect person] consists of both poet and technician. Kinda like marketing and operations I guess. The poet’s job is to be unreasonable, romantic and thought provoking. The technician’s job is to be realistic, accountable and systematic.

There might be more unknowns to the equation, but the geeral principle of balance, I’m sure, stands true.

A quick reminder about proper language

Joe Anderson reminds why bloggers should use propa English:

Using good English makes your reader find your writing more interesting. Also, it makes it easier for them to understand as they need not translate it. Talking of translating, if you have foreign readers, Google Translate or similar tools can convert proper English better than improper English.

Cyprus Blog Network

For the last two or three years, the amount of blogging that I do was constantly growing. More blogs, more subjects, more posts. It was only logical to pull all my projects under a common roof. In blogosphere, a common roof for a bunch of blogs is often called a blog network. Not exactly, but I like the concept. So, this is exactly what I will try to do…

Ladies and gentlement, please welcome – the Cyprus Blog Network. This blog is the first to join the network officially. And to have in stone, from now on there is a permanent link to the network from this blog. Can you find it? I knew you could. Yes, it’s the one up there on the right. Yes, this web site is a proud member…

There are still plenty of things going on, and I am still trying to figure everything out with blogs, rules, promotion, and advertising revenues. But I figured it’s easier to do in tiny steps. So, for now, enjoy the network as it is – small and simple.

Project 365

Woman. Red light.

My photography days are back. When I don’t make pictures for a few days, it’s hard to get back into it. And when I don’t get back into it for a long time, I miss it too much. So, I thought, why should suffer for no cause…

Some of my happiest days of photography were when I undertook the “Picture of the day” project a couple of years ago. For about three or four month I was making a picture every day. Every. Single. Day. That project taught me more about photography than any book or web site that I read before or after.

Most of the pictures I took during that project seem to be ugly now. Also, since I’ve changed my photo gallery preferences and blog themes a few times since then, most of the pictures don’t even look right on this site no more. But I don’t care. I love it then.

And I’m going to love it again. I am starting “Project 365“. That is I will take (or at least attempt to take) a picture every day for a year. I’ll post my images to this Flickr set. I’m also tagging all these images with 365days tag.

I’ve been thinking about starting this project for some time now. Once again I was reminded about it by this post at LifeHacker. Apparently, “Project 365” is something of a fashion these days. And there are even a whole bunch of images at Flickr tagged with “365days”.

Once in a while, if I have nothing to blog about, I’ll post an image to remind you all about this project.

By the way, that’s the perfect time for you too to jump on board. If you wanted to learn more about photography, or to practice more, feel free to join the project. All you need is some sort of camera (even the mobile camera will do), some Internet connectivity (that is if you want to share your results), some will and persisntence. And I can promise you two things that will result from a project like this:

  1. You WILL learn a lot about photography. Your pictures will become better. Much better.
  2. You WILL have a lot of fun. You’ll see details that you never noticed before. You will understand how important light is to your life. You’ll explore textures, forms, and perspectives. You’ll meet new people. You will probably love it.

If you are coming along, don’t forget to leave a comment, so that I (and others) know where to find your pictures. If nothing else, we can do a before/after comparison once you’re finished.

Anyway, wish me luck. Good luck to you. And let’s go out for some pictures. Now, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow…

SPAM comments are like a bad hygiene

While reading this post about comment SPAM at Lorelle on WordPress I had an enlightment. An analogy. SPAM comments are like a bad hygiene for your blog. It’s like someone who doesn’t take a shower – noone dies, but a lot of people suffer. And the chances of getting a nasty desease rise significantly too.

I write a lot here about how your blog should speak well of you and your ability to communicate, so what does a comment spam covered blog say about you? Here’s a few of my judgment calls on spam covered blogs:

  • Lazy
  • Careless
  • Procrastinating
  • No self respect
  • Lack of self confidence
  • Inability to research
  • Inability to problem solve
  • Lack of follow through
  • Lack of commitment
  • Doesn’t care about others
  • Just doesn’t care
