Update on DopeWars

DopeWars turned out to be a pretty addictive game. Olga is in for it two. We are now in the cartel Crazy Cyprtiots (ID #49). We’ve already robbed a couple of guys and are fighting with another one.

Few strategic hints, if you will suddenly decide to join:

  • Join cartel as soon as possible. This will benefit both you and the cartel, since you will still have a lot of tokens to spend.
  • Get a few junkies into training. By the time you will finish spending your initial tokens, you will have few junkies up the full speed working for you.
  • Build a drug lab and get yourself a better coat. This will ensure that you will never stay out of money.
  • Don’t go to the dealer very often. They only make 3 deals with you and than you will have to change the station, which will cost you tokens. But make sure that you go often enough, so that you coat does not fill up or you will lose drugs. Lots drugs = lost income.
  • Educate yourself in the University. Buy lots of books first. This will save you tokens later on.
  • Turn on ads. That will give you some extra cash, without any annoyance (mostly those are Google ads and at the bottom of the page). Also get free tokens following the link at the top of the page. You can get them with just three clicks, but… only 5 every 20 hours.

If you are planning to join the game later, than don’t. You don’t have to be always online to play. You receive tokens all the time (2 every 25 minutes). That means that you can play while you sleep. So join now. But remember that you cannot have more than 168 tokens at any time. So spend some before you go to sleep.

Anyway, join in. We need your help as we climb up the food chain. There are some pretty tough gangs out there.

When Harry Met Sally…

Olga and I just watched “When Harry Met Sally…” on DVD. It is an excellent comedy/romance back from 1989. It’s more than excellent actually. I think it is the way comedy/romance are supposed to be done. Basically, it is about two people who have lots and lots of dialogs and monologs. The subject is love, of course. And the comedy is just a sauce for the serious thoughts.

There was some good acting from both Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Supporting characters were pretty good too. I also liked the soundtrack a lot.

My verdict is 8 out of 10. A kind of 8 which is closer to 9, but not yet there. Good entertainment.

Let’s play DopeWars

DopeWars is one of the most addictive games ever! I have seen many clones of this game on many platforms. I even have a version for my SonyEricsson P800. Today I came across an online version – DopeWars Online.

This version is excellent. It is free, fast and online to start with. It has a whole lot of options too. There are several ways to make money – producing drugs, producing weapons, trafficing drugs, etc. Players can join gangs (cartels). Cartel members have more efficient drug laboratories, weapon factories, etc. They are harder to rob, and they can attack others with better chances.

The game is nicely balanced too.

I’ve already moved to rank 221. I have my own drug lab and factory machines that produce weapons and vests. I’ve bought myself a better coat (for drug transportation) and a few thugs (assassins, killers).

Register, if you are interested. Let me know you player ID (mine is #352) in the comments. We can form a cartel of our own. :)

Steel Magnolias

Watched “Steel Magnolias” on DVD. I’ve seen it before, but for some reason my memory kept no record of this film.

IMDB suggests a “Comedy/Romance/Drama” categorization for this movie. I do disagree a lot with this. This as pure drama as it can get. I mean there are, of course, ways to laugh at diabetics woman who, despite all doctors’ advice, gives birth to the baby, than needs a kidney, which than provided by her mother, and than dies anyway… But this movie is not about laughing at these things. It is about how life can be tough sometimes. There are a few jokes, sure. But those are only used to help people to get through difficult times. There is no comedy in that.

I liked this movie a lot. It has nice character development and attention to details. Everything and everyone look so real that I got glued to the movie from the first few minutes until the closing titles. There is plenty of good acting too. And the story is good. Not very original, but good.

I think that a 7 out of 10 would do this movie justice.
