Once again on digital postprocessing

Sneaky lookIt’s been some time since I’ve decided to postprocess images. During this time I was shooting only ‘Picture of the day’ series which are mostly one or two few images. Processing them was very fast and easy.

Today I was photographing a major event. When I came back home, I found out that I made a total of 403 pictures. That is in the range of what I usually bring home, so no surprises here. The surprise was in how much time and effort it would take me to postprocess them. It took all of my free time and strength for the day to finish them. I ended up with 122 pictures published, each of which had at least some minor changes.

Lesson #1: either I will drop the whole idea of postprocessing, or it will teach me how to photograph smarter, making less pictures but of better quality and up to the point.

Lesson #2: postprocessing a bunch of pictures on a slow machine is no fun. No fun at all. I will have to upgrade my home workstation if I am to do this often.

Lesson #3: postprocessed images do look way better. I will be coming back to the album more often and I feel more proud than ashamed about today’s results.

Now I need few moments off computer. Bye.

Parade at Makarious III avenue

SoldiersToday, as I’ve mentioned before, is a national holiday in Cyprus – “Oxi day” which came from Greece. Limassol was celebrating with a huge parade. Many schools and colleges participated as well as military, police, and other government organizations. The demonstration took place at Makarious III avenue, which is one of the central streets of the city.

The show started at around 11:30. Everything was very well organized, as usual. There were safety zones marked with ropes, and there were lots of guards and policemen who maintained the order. There were plenty of spectators as well. Many of them came with children.

If you missed the event, there will be some television coverage on local news. Additionally, you can see a whole bunch of pictures that I took.

Moon

Moon

Today the Moon was even bigger than yesterday and the clouds were much more interesting. They were this patchy kind. Unfortunately they moved way too fast to be photographed as they were.

I have used the tripod to get the shots right. Out of 20 or so pictures, I have selected only 5. Full Moon is very interesting and documentary. The rest are very atmospheric.

Sun or Moon?

Sun or Moon?

Shooting into direct sun with polarizing filter on can produce a picture that is very close to black and white in appearence. Shooting a moon with a high ISO setting and without a tripod can produce something which looks like a sun. The only way I could tell two images apart is by grain which is caused by low ISO setting. Today’s picture is “Sun or Moon?”
