TEDxNicosia photos are online

When I went to TEDxNicosia event last month, I forgot to take my camera.  I was a bit sad to miss such an opportunity.  But during the talks I caught myself thinking that it’s probably for the better that I didn’t have the camera with me.  The talks were so interesting and engaging that I would either forget to take more pictures or miss parts of the talks while making shots.  And then again, sitting in the middle of the row it wouldn’t be too easy to move around.  And we all know how boring are the picture taken from the same place.

Anyway, now all my thoughts are put to rest.  As I mentioned before, TEDxNicosia was very well organized.  And part of that organization was arranging for an excellent photographer – Andri Josef.   I remember seeing Andri all over the place during the event – next to the stage, on the floor, in the cafeteria, and always behind the camera.  She must have taken a gadzillion images during that day!  Now, you can have a look at some of them in TEDxNicosia Gallery, covering the speakers, the venue, the organizers, the attendees, and more.   Here is a check-in image of Michael and me.  We just got our badges, heading for the coffee.

Defence ministry presented loss as profit

Cyprus Mail reports:

AUDITOR General Chrystalla Yorkadji has highlighted high expenses, inconsistencies and disorganisation in the finances of the defence ministry and the National Guard in her 2010 annual report.

The National Guard officers’ club in Nicosia for example made a loss of about €537,000 despite claims of making a ‘profit’ of about €54,000, Yorkadji said in the report which was released on Tuesday.

“That sum could hardly be called a ‘profit’ since the administrative expenses of the club, such as rent, wages, electricity, telephone and water were not calculated,” Yorkadji said.  Factoring those in, the club made a loss of over half a million euros, Yorkadji said adding that the bulk of it went to wages.

And I thought I was bad with numbers …

Coffee shop code of conduct

I found this image in Web Workers Daily post and I think it’s brilliant. More and more people are spending their time in coffee shops using laptops and other devices. Too many of them have no idea that they are surrounded by people. Hopefully, at least some of them will see this infographic and, perhaps, think for a moment.

The Zilla Project at TePee tomorrow

I just got the confirmation that tomorrow, Saturday, December 3rd 2011, will be a good day to visit the TePee Rock Bar in Limassol, Cyprus. The Zilla Project – a heavy blues band will be performing live. The show starts at 23:00. I have no clue about the tickets, but most shows in TePee are free, minus the beers.

Although I have other plans for the weekend, there is a light chance that I might make it. Are you coming?
