More on Skype

Let me do a little side note, before I start – Mom, you should really read this post! :)

Now, just a couple of days ago I wrote that I decided to try Skype. I downloaded it and installed on my computer. There were few nice things about it that I noticed immediately, but there are so many more that need a second look!

Here we go…

How far can you throw this?

Maxim has acquired a new skill – throwing. For a long time now he was dropping things, studying the effects of gravity forces. He would pick up something, move it up and release it then, watching how different items fall differently. If an item (like a sock) would get stuck somewhere, Maxim usually picked it up again and dropped it again, just to see the completed path.

These last couple of days he realized that throwing things (in other words, applying force and direction) is much more fun. The concept is new to him and provides for the most entertainment. So far he doesn’t even care where the object will fly and how far. Just the idea of supplying it with a lot of force is fullfilling. After every launch Maxim laughs maniacally and applauds himself.

We have all kinds of things flying all over the place now. Everything you could imagine from toys and books to socks and plates. It feels like being in the cheap war action movie or a family scandal comedy. Really. That much fun.

And then there are more teeth coming…

My car! My car! My car is back!

I didn’t tell you all, but yesterday evening I picked up my car from the garage.

After almost two month of repairs, it’s as good as new. Except for the rare right light. It’s the second time it needs replacement, and it’s the second time noone sells this model in Cyprus. Dealers also don’t want to order it. As I was told, it takes time for the parts to arrive, and during this time buyer can change his mind. And dealer will end up with a spear part (oh, my god! how did that happen?) and noone to sell it to. So, wha they (dealers) do, is tell you that the part is on the way, but instead they wait for four-six month until the price for this particular part goes down and they can afford to lose the money. Whatever. For the time being, they placed a different light – another model. If you look at it, you can see the difference, but if you don’t – it’s not staring you in the eyes.

Anyway, the light is not the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that the case for this accident is still open between the insurance companies. My insurance hasn’t paid anything. The other insurance company doesn’t want to pay anything. I’ll be seeing some people about this tomorrow. Hopefully, this will resolve nicely.

The good thing is that I have the car back. I was driving a really old Mazda 323 since the accident. It had an automatic gear box, manual window and mirror controls, and a bunch of other antique features. I have totally got used to it though. I even almost forgot how good my own car was. I’ll have to get used to it again now. Especially the manual gear box and the way the car accelerates when I “step on it”. Scary…

SPAM protection review

It’s been less than a month since I installed SPAM Karma 2. It didn’t take me long to see the benefits. Just four days later I wrote this post.

Today, looking through the plugin statistics, I thought – “Why don’t I post them?”. So, here they are:

  1. Total Spam Caught: 1002 (average karma: -102.87)
  2. Total Comments Approved: 141 (average karma: 14.74)
  3. Total Comments Moderated: 13
  4. Current Version: 2.2 final r2

So, in less than a month SPAM Karma 2 saved me more than a thousand contacts with SPAM. At the same time, it stood out of the way almost 150 times when legitimate comments were posted. And only 13 times it didn’t know what to do and left comments for me to moderate. Pretty good numbers, I have to say.

False positives? None of the legitimate comments were marked as SPAM. About 20 SPAM comments got through and I had to marked deal with them manually. The shiny 2.2 update came out a couple of days ago to deal with the new wave of “smart” spambots.

As for me, I am very very very satisfied with the results. I just hope that this plugin will continue to work the way it does now. I’m willing to install upgrades.

Thank you all who participated in this work!

Mokh is back

[bofh]mokh returned back to Cyprus a few days ago. He’s going to be here with his family for a long time. He is still arranging for the basic needs – Internet connection, phone, and a place to live, so we didn’t have time to chat a lot yet.

But something tells me that my gaming days aren’t just over yet. It’s been a while since I had a railgun in my hands. I was living in piece for years now. But the time of war practice has come. We’ll be doing a lot of shooting soon.

Want to take advantage of me? Start your practice now… before I do.
