Almost a year ago I mentioned that Pafos Bird Park was open and accepting visitors. Finally, I managed to go there and see for my own what and how good it is. Vladimir, Olga, and Maxim came along.

Bits and pieces
New WordPress plugins appear every day or so it seems. Old ones are improving at a constant rate too. Once in a while I revisit plugin directories to see if anything worth installing or upgrading had appeared. Today I discovered a couple of new plugins that I decided to install.
- Rate My Stuff is one of straight forward plugins that add a nice touch to the website. It allows to show those small stars when posting a rating of something. I thought since I have so many movie reviews, it would be a good idea to have the stars added to them. So I installed the plugin, resized the original images to smaller versions (15×15 pixels) and wrote a small perl script (wp-rate.pl; make sure that you have a fresh backup of the databases) to update all movie posts o’mine.
- pluginsUsedPlugin does a very simple, but useful job. It tells everyone what plugins are installed and activated for the current WordPress installation. I have added the list of currently active plugins to the About page. The list is dynamic and thus always up to date. All plugins in the list are linked to the appropriate websites where they could be downloaded.
I’ve also found a couple of other plugins that I am planning to install, but they require some work on my behalf and so I left them for after I’ve slept.

Working like a dog
For the last couple of years my working schedule has been pretty much stable. It was sporadic and random in a sense that I was working a lot of night shifts that I had to compensate with a lot of weekends shifts, while managing to screw in some regular office hours, but it was stable. I was getting from one week to another with five nine hour periods on average. Sometimes I was getting a bit more, sometimes – slightly less.
Today and yesterday are different though. I finished yesterday’s night shift at 7:00am and went home. I had a light breakfast and went to bed. Two hours later I woke up and went back to the office for an important meeting. The meeting was supposed to take two hours, but it continued for three and a half instead. When it finished I had a choice of either going home and getting more sleep before my tonight’s night shift or staying in the office and registering for one regular office hours day. With almost four hours of the full working day behind my back already, I decided to stay and work.
About five hours later I released myself and went home to get some rest. I was exhausted already, but couldn’t sleep well for some reason. My mind was working on something without letting me know what it actually was. I’ll find out eventually. Anyway, four hours passed and I went back to the office for the night shift. And here I am.
Calculations for the HR office: for the period between Thursday, September 29th 23:00 and Saturday 1st 8:00 (the total of 33 hours) I am registered for 3 working shifts 9 hours each (the total of 27 hours). Not bad, eh…
Independence of the Republic of Cyprus
Today is the 45th anniversary of Cyprus independence. It was back in 1960 that it got out of British colonial rule. If you’d like more information on the subject, check the Wikipedia page for Cyprus and the rest of the web.
I’m sure there will be plenty of celebrations across the island with parades and fireworks. Normally I would attend and make lots of pictures, but this year I have a different agenda planned. I am not sure that it will work out yet though because of the holiday, but stay tuned. If it will, you’ll be able to enjoy a lot of pictures anyway. Just of a different kind.
