Sketches
I have started a new photography project – “Sketches“. Sketches are not actually photographs. They are ideas for photographs. I draw them manually, using the Jotter tool in my Sony Ericsson P800. Sometimes I draw them to remind myself about a photo opportunity. Sometimes I draw them to do some thinking about the picture I want to shoot. Sometimes I draw them to get images out of my head, which I know I will never shoot. Sometimes I draw them just because I have nothing better to do.
Drawing was never my strong side. This is probably why I enjoy photography so much – the chance to express without breaking my own hands trying to learn the techniques. And fast. But during the last few month I found myself drawing more and more sketches. Today I showed a couple of them to Olga and she actually liked them (or said that she liked them). That gave me an idea to dump them out on this website. This will save me some space on the memory card, provide for a good backup, and maybe even give some pervertish authentic pleasure to someone other than me.
Reorganization in Photos section
Until today, I had a really simple organization in my Photos section. Pictures for each trip and event were uploaded to a separate directory, which, in turn, were organized by month and year. Single shots and short sequences went into the POTD directory and were announced as my “Picture of the day” achievements.
For some time now I was planning a slight change in that arrangement. Today I got off my lazy butt and actually did the planned changes. I have created a new directory “Projects“, which will have all my photography projects in it. “Picture of the day” is one of my projects, thus it was moved.
Since I have posted links to POTD submissions into way too many forums, I intend to keep those links working. In case you are wondering how I did it, here is a copy-paste from my .htaccess
file:

Please let me know if anything got broken on the way…
Slavik
I think that having people portraits appearing in the “Picture of the day” is a good thing sometimes. Today I’ve got a really quick shot that I managed not to screw up seriously. It captured the mood nicely.

Is Tom Hanks around or what?
Olga and I went to Orphanides supermarket today. Orphanides is one of those shops that try their best to make the life of consumers difficult. 50 cent deposit for the shopping cart is an absolute requirement to make shopping painful for one’s customers, so these were implemented.
Parked in the underground, we deposited the 50 cent coin and picked up one of the carts. When we were passing by the Orphanides caffeteria, we decided that we want to eat something and continue our shopping after the meal. The caffeteria does not have enough space to keep the cart nearby, so we were basically forced to leave it outside together with other carts, some half empty, some half full. When we came out, our cart was gone. The first thought that I had was that Tom Hanks is somewhere near. :)
In one of his recent movies – “The Terminal” – his character was living in the airport. In order to earn some money, he was collecting carts around the building and bringing them back to cart parking, thus getting deposit coins.
Anyway, we laughed a little and went to get another cart. Olga found 50 cent coin on the floor fo the caffeteria, so we actually haven’t lost anything…
