Iron Monkey

Having nothing better to do, I’ve watched “Iron Monkey” (also known as “Siunin Wong Fei-hung tsi titmalau”). It is an excellent chinese action with a nice story and brilliant martial arts. Even Olga like it. Considering the fact that it was made more than 10 years ago (1993) it has some really modern special effects. They are fun to watch even these days.

One of the reasons that I decided to watch it was that it had the highest rating on IMDB from a heap of movies I had around. Rarely do chinese action films go as high as 7.5/10. This film is so good that I am willing to confirm that rating. Go China! :)

Switches do die

That NoName 100 Mbps switch that I was using for my internal network has strangely died today. I’ve experienced problems with it before, but it was different all the time. I always had a hub as a temporary backup solution, but I gave it away some time ago. Thanks to my brother, I now have a brand new 3Com 100Mbps switch. It is only 5 ports instead of 8 ports of the dead one, but it should be enough. I have only 3 ports occupied now, so there are another 2 for my guests.

The funny coincidence is that two days ago I had to repeat three times that network administration is not my biggest interest. :)

Images of Cyprus

Askas village

Apparently, it turns out that my photo gallery is not the biggest online collection of images of Cyprus. There is a dedicated site called “Images of Cyprus“. There are plenty of picture thumbnails. Everything is categorized and organized. If you feel the need, you can even order high resolution images in TIF format. They can photograph any place you request and prices are rather low (starting from 30 CYP).

Found by means of Cyprus Pages.

Migrating from Microsoft Access to MySQL

<%image(20040802-mysql.png" alt="">

Many people are migrating still migrating from Microsoft Access to MySQL. I came across a freeware program that can simplify the process. It can migrated all database structure, data, and meta data (indexes, etc). Download links and screenshots are here.

If all that stops you now is your ASP code, then you can grab a copy of ASP2PHP and covert it to PHP easily. Free software is really great. Open source software is even better. :)

Maya Ruins

TowerCastleI think that I don’t know anyone who is not interested in Maya. Maybe it is just my impression. Anyway. Here is an excellent website about Maya Ruins. There is a lot of information and pictures gathered from four countries: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. Excellent navigation and extended bibliography with links to Amazon add to credibility and browsing satisfaction.

Enjoy.
