Did you ever wanted George Bush to say something stupid? Oh, wait… Let me try once again. Did you ever wanted George Bush to say something smart? Well, it appears that there is some control over what he says. You can also make it look very realistic. Just choose your options and type in the text at George-Says.com website and voula – you have it. Don’t tell me it wasn’t easy!

The Stepford Wives
Olga and I watched an excellent movie today – “The Stepford Wives“. It had a rather weak trailer and Nicole Kidman is playing there, who is neither mine, nor Olga’s favourite actress, so we didn’t want particularly to see it.
We almost missed an excellent, as I already said, film. Everything is great about it – story, acting, music – everything. It somehow managed to be very light and easy going while delivering few strong points and a tonne or so of satire. Amazing. Another great thing about it is attention to details – from the opening titles and through the whole movie. I could almost feel the smell of things. Excellent work.
I’ll give it an 9 out of 10. Get it and watch it. It can survive the DVD.
Picture of the day
I’ve got only one picture for you today. But one is all you need. I took the picture of the bottle which was standing on the balcony table. It was dark already, so I failed to realize that the black border on the top wasn’t from the camera, but from the balcony edge. I’ll try to remember to use some reference point in the future.
I have tried this new beer today – Mythos. It is a new brand of the Greek lager that they started to sell in Cyprus. I did like the taste of it. It is rather simplistic, low carbonated, a little bit bitter, and soft. It is a kind that is good to drink together with food. It also reminded me of beers I used to drink while in high school.
I forgot to check the price tag, but it wasn’t anything high (I’ve got a pint together with two sheftalias for less then 5 CYP). I guess, I’ll be drinking more of it in the future. It is a nice choice for times when Carlsberg is not available or slightly overused.
Updated Mozilla Firefox to 1.0PR
I have updated my Mozilla Firefox to version 1.0PR. It does appear to be faster than the previous version that I had. Also it has a couple of nice features. When browsing through sites which provide RSS/Atom feeds, a small ‘RSS’ icon appears in the status bar. By clicking on this icon, one can subscribe to RSS feed. It will appear as a Bookmark folder which will contain items of the feed as separate bookmarks. Very neat. Another nice feature is Autoupdate. When enabled, it will check for new versions of installed themes and extensions, and optionally update them. It can even update Firefox itself. I was missing this for a long time now.
Playing around with extensions, I found the options for the GoogleBar extention. Don’t laugh. I had it installed for years, but never bothered to check the key bindings. It turned out I was doing too many clicks. It is extremely easy to bind ‘Alt+Enter’ to run queries on http://images.google.com and show results in a new tab without switching focus to it. There is much more, of course, but this is what I was missing the most.
K3B Disappointment
I need a fast way of writing an ISO image to CD today. My cdrecord script was malfunctioning since the last upgrade (complained about the wrong usage of device), so I decided to try something new. Quickly did ‘apt-get install k3b‘ from a local server and started it. It correctly detected by CD writer. I was also presented with a clean and polished interface for the choice of files and writing mode (audio/data/mixed). I have selected the ISO 9660 image I wanted to write and clicked ‘Burn’. Progress bar went running the usual path from left to right and in a short time I got an ‘OK. Well done.’ message. I was impressed about how fast and easy all that was… until I mounted the disk. K3B did what it was asked to do – wrote a file on disk. I, though, hoped that it would recognize my needs a little better. Who ever wanted an ISO file on the disk? From what I’ve heard, people usually want a filesystem from ISO image to be there. Bad, bad behaviour.
Since I was in a time pressure, I didn’t have time to go over all the documentation and stuff. I quickly checked through available options, but didn’t find anything related to ISO 9660. Maybe I missed it somewhere.
Anyway, it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the correct options for cdrecord. Back to console.
Update (29 Sep 2004, 4:31am): It turned out I just missed a menu option: Tools::CD::Burn CD Image.
