Cars vs. Wires

Hanging car

Most probably you have already seen it, but I’ll post it anyway. Someone has sent me a link to the story with a few pictures about the car that was hanging from the telephone wires. It seems that the driver was in a hurry, because even after he had this accident, he jumped down from the car and ran away to the general direction of the bus stop.

The interesting part was that the engine was left working and did so for some time… Sounds like an excellent advertising opprotunity for the automobile company that made the car.

Payback

It has been a while since I have bought “Payback” on DVD. It has also been few times that I have watched it. I watched it both before and after I bought it. But I was always lacking the right terms to describe the feeling. And I think finally I have got it.

This movie is so transparent and predictable from beginning to end that it is unbelievable. Before even the credits start rolling and movie title displayed you already know what it is about and how it will go and how it will end. And still you… or sorry, I watch it and enjoy it a lot. And then I figure out that it is so much like Tarantino’s Kill Bill…

This film is not about what is happening and to who, but about how it is shown. It has all the style you could ask for and some more. If you enjoyed Kill Bill’s duo and you haven’t seen this one, then go out and grab the DVD. It’s superb.

For the pedants: 9.5 out of 10. :)

Renewed passport

I have received my renewed Russian passport. Everyone who was so worried about it can now relax. :) The celebrations will follow…

It appears to be very similar to the old one. My first and last names are still the same. My face on the picture got older and wider. It now also has a beard. The first page (the one with the photo) now seems to have more protection on it. But the appearence is more or less the same. I can relax until the year 2009. :)

Together with the passport I got a copy of the note that I am not needed in the army until the June 30, 2005. This is also a good news, because by June 30, 2005 I will be over 27. And being over the edge of 27 means they don’t want you in the army. Ever. Unless of course there is a war. I just hope that they will not change the law by that time. :)

Mozilla stomps IE

I’ve just came across this story which dates back to 1997. Apparently, immidiately after a release of the new version of Internet Explorer few people got drunk and overproud. So they took the huge meta “e” (logo of MS Internet Explorer), drove it to the Netscape office and left it standing nearby in the middle of the night. Fortunately, Netscape people, who usually work in the middle of the night, noticed the thing. So, they dropped it on the side, painted “Netscape NOW” on top of it, and put their own Godzilla-like mascot over it.

There were a lot of publicity, but I haven’t heard this story before. Maybe you too.
