Cyprus Rally 2005: Preparations

Subaru butt

Cyprus Rally 2005 is about to start now. Today I went to the Rally HQ to buy a couple of Rally Passes. Mainly I was after the programme magazine which is usually included with the Pass package.

After waiting and walking around for a couple of hours, I learned that there was some problem with organizers and that they will start distributing Passes only tomorrow. Before I got disappointed and all depressed, I managed to acquire (hehe) a copy of the magazine with the rally programme. No need to feel sad – we’ll be planning our activities no matter what.

I have also walked around the Service Park. I was wearing the last year’s Subaru t-shirt and most of the guards thought for some reason that I was with Subaru team. They were encouraging me to join Subaru mechanics, asking questions, cheering and stuff like that. I used such a friendly opportunity to make a whole bunch of pictures. Drivers and co-drivers were out of the Service Park at some press conference or something like that, so no pictures of them. But, instead, I’ve got plenty shots of mechanics, cars, team camps, flags, etc.

Get your passes for Cyprus Rally this year

Although passes for Cyprus Rally were sold every year, some people didn’t understand why they would need one. Spectator areas are usually big enough to fit anyone and Service Park does not provide enough entertainment for the masses to go. This year is differen though. WRC.com reports in this news item:

The organisers of this year’s Cyprus Rally have unveiled a dedicated fan facility at one of the most popular spots on the event in a bid to avoid the crowd-congestion problems which forced the second run through the stage to be cancelled last year. The Kelephos Bridge area on Saturday’s SS8 and SS11 will now be pass-only.

The Kelephos Bridge section is one of several watersplashes on the Mediterranean island event, as the cars pass through a ford on the Diarizos River. Facilities at the new pass-only spectator area will feature up-to-date results, live stage commentary and merchandising stands. Tickets for the area must be purchased in advance and will come on a first-come, first-served basis.

Live music in Getonia ton Osmaton

Andrey Shvachko becomes a continuous source of musical events in Nicosia. This time he informs that there will be a live music evening in Getonia ton Osmaton club. There will be two bands. The first one is Jazzmania, from the Nothern Republic of Cyprus. Probably they’ll play jazz, but you can never know for sure. The second band is called OS (and yes, Andrey is a prt of it too). It will play western coast rock-n-roll with hits from such famous bands as Grateful Dead, Chris Rea, Brian Adams, Beatles, and Whitesnake.

The evening program will start at 20:30 and the entrance fee is 5 CYP. The ticket includes food and drinks.

Getonia ton Osmaton is in Aglandjia part of Nicosia, not far from Filoxenia hotel. Andrey will probably provide the detailed map, with instructions on how to find it, a bit later. I’ll post it here if and when he will do so.

Update: Andrey posted the map. Here is the copy for you.

Follow-up on KSP4

I know that I said that KSP4 is now over and everything, but there are few minor bits that I forgot to mention.

First of all, I said nothing about photo exsibition that took place at the festival. Yes, that’s right, there was a small photo expo with a few really nice images. Anyone could have shown their work and I didn’t pass that chance. It was my official display of images off the Internet. I had 10 pictures up. You can see all of them here. I linked to all of them before, but this way they are easier to see – all together.

Secondly, lots and lots of people were making pictures and videos of the festival. All of these materials are now getting linked to from this thread at forum.russiancyprus.net (skip to pages 3 and 4 for links).

Kakomalis 2005 – KSP 4

KSP crowd

KSP 4 is now officially over. Today I returned at 6:30 in the morning. It seems that with every KSP I am staying longer and longer. I also brought with me pain in every muscle, hangover, absense of voice because of shouting and singling too much, more than a 100 photos, and tonnes of positive energy.

KSP 4 was a success! More people than ever came to see and participate in the event. I think there was as much as 400 people. Lots of singers and musicians, with the main few who practiced a lot together before the concert. This time the stage was even bigger and music was even louder. There were plenty of photographers and video operators, so I hope they’ll start sharing the coverage soon.

And the main thing is that I started waiting for the next KSP before I even got home…
