A big part of my work has to do with code. I’ve worked as system administrator – installing, patching, and configuring someone else’s code. I’ve worked as independent programmer, writing code on my own. I also programmed as part of the team. And on top of that, I worked as Team Leader and Project Manager, where I had to interact a lot with programmers. Programming world on its own is as huge as the universe. There is always something to learn. When I find something worthy or something that I understand enough to write about, I share it in this category.

Personally, I prefer command line tools that allow me the greatest flexibility and control.  However there are many people who feel more comfortable in graphical environments.  For them, SmartGit looks like a good option.

Here is a snippet of discussion I had with a colleague today.  I thought it was funny:

[3:00 PM] Me: hmm
[3:00 PM] Me: how do you know? :)
[3:00 PM] Him: i prayed to the lord and he showed me the way
[3:00 PM] Him: you didn’t, right?
[3:01 PM] Me: I have a different lord apparently :)
[3:01 PM] Him: your lord is not a programmer!
[3:01 PM] Me: no, my lord can parse & in xml just fine … your lord is a pussy :)
[3:02 PM] Him: lol!!

hack {cyprus} *12 presentations

As I mentioned in a post yesterday, I was going to see the presentations of project on the first Cyprus hackathon.  And I went.  And it was awesome!

It was a bit tricky to find and I nearly missed it, as I didn’t know all the buildings that belong to Cyprus University of Technology.  Luckily, I spotted a bunch of people in black t-shirts outside of the building.  And there are only three groups of people that wear black t-shirts: geeks, hard rock fans, and policemen.  I approached carefully, and once I knew these weren’t the police, I knew I would blend in and have a good time.
