I love photography. For me, it’s like painting, but better. And more accurate. And unlike painting, I can actually participate. I am not a big success or great master by any means. But I enjoy taking pictures. I also enjoy looking at other people work and sometimes sharing it. When I do, this is the category that I use.

Picture of the day

SignsToday is exactly one month since I’ve started the ‘Picture of the day’ project. One part of me is sceptic and cannot believe that a month past by. Another part of me is very proud. It is proud not of all that crap I put out on a daily basis, but about the dedication I put into it. I’ve learnt a couple of cool tricks along the way.

I was thinking if I should continue this or not, and if I should than for how long. On one hand, I am pretty bored with this already. On another hand it does teach me alot and I get constant practice. Yet on another, Chernobyl kid kind of hand, I have a couple of other projects in my head. I think I will continue with the ‘Picture of the day’ thingy for another month. I will also move the folder to be a part of, yet to be created, ‘Projects’ tree. I will also start with other projects and will let you know on how it goes. Stay tuned in other words.

Anyway, today I was shooting straight out of my car, while driving home from work. The funny thing I’ve noticed on the way are the signs of all those little workshops in the downtown. One of them was for signs. Somehow the guy head the dirtiest sign around. And his phone numbers were way too old (without mandatory 25 Limassol prefix). I can only imagine what kind of signs he can make. Hehe. Kind of my photos. But I don’t do them for money. Yet. Maybe I should.

Milena’s Birthday

MilenaHere are the pictures from Milena’s birthday party (today for those in the unknown). It was a great party with lots of excellent food, drinks, nice people and music. Especially music. Especially towards the end, when there was a real rock concert with electric guitar, bass, keyboard and a couple of microphones. Cool!

Photography-wise it was pretty tough. There was defenetily a lack of light. Most of the pictures were done with ISO1600 setting, f4.5 or f5.6 aperture, on-camera flash, and some are still blurry. It seems that I really need a more powerful flash unit.

Pictures from our wedding party

Me and Olga

I know I have promised for a long time now to scan and upload pictures from Olga’s and my wedding party. It’s been more than two years now and I was always either busy, poor, lazy, or looking for the film rolls. Finally, I managed to push myself together and get it done.

The photoalbum is here. Pictures are not in chronological order. Processing and scanning was done in the photostudio and they have some strange orders there. Maybe I will find some time now to sort them properly, but, at the end of the day, there is no much of a difference.

Film rolls weren’t kept under optimum conditions and, it seems, they suffered quiet a lot. Pictures are very grainy and low resolution, but I guess it will be OK for the web. Maybe later (again) I will try to scan the hard copies that I have (some are missing) and compare the results. If I get any better, I’ll post them instead.

Thanks to my brother who was always busy making pictures while everyone else was enjoying the food and drinks. Great job!

Picture of the day

Building for X-MenOlga and I went for a short walk today. For some strange reason, I’ve been seeing ‘X’s all over the place. I’ve seen an unfinished building with lots of ‘X’s in it, a sign pointing into direction of Xception cafe, a photo studio Kodak eXpress, and few others. Not all of these were photographable, but I managed to make a couple of shots. Check them out here.

I have also noticed that ‘Picture of the day’ project does improve my vision of things. I have started to notice photographs everywhere and I started to care about thing around me much more. Olga and I were sitting in the cafe, eating ice-cream, and she was so beautiful that I wanted to make a picture of her like this, but somehow my eye noticed by itself that there is a closed umbrella behind Olga that will look ugly on the photograph and that there is an ugly tungsten lamp on the right of her, which would spoil the picture too. I than tried to rearrange the frame mentally, but by the time I was done, the atmosphere was gone. At least I haven’t made yet another disappointing picture and saved the web from another portion of crap. Good me.
