Picture of the day

Passing lightsEKOIt turned out that it wasn’t a cardreader that I burned yesterday, but a USB port on my workstation. These are not so bad news, since I don’t use USB on that machine all that much.

Anyway, I have posted few picture of passing lights and ray traces from yesterday. You can find them here. I think I am finished with this subject for now.

For today pictures I’ve stopped at EKO petrol station. This specific station looks excellent in the real life, especially when it’s dark. I failed to deliver all the beauty, but I’ve tried a few times. Maybe I will redo it later when I will get more educated on the subject of bright light boards photography.

There will be no picture of the day today. My cardreader stopped reading cards. At all. And it gave this stinky burning smell when it did so. I guess it went down to hell and got fried. I’ll get another one tomorrow, if I am lucky.

Meanwhile I did shot a few pictures. I tried the driving through the night and shooting to get those ray images again. This time I washed my window and put the camera on the tripod on the front seat. It was always trying to fall down, so I had to hold it a bit. But it was more flexible than on the panel.

Anyway, I will get myself a new reader, and upload the images if anything turns out OK. Stay tuned.

Ray tracesBetween fighting a hangover and preparing for the night shift, I didn’t get any time to hold a camera. Actually, I didn’t even feel any urge to do so anyway. It was just on my way to work I started thinking what will photograph today. Somehow the road looked nice with some cars on it and lots of street lights. Than I noticed that I don’t have to hold the camera to make pictures while driving – it can rest on the front panel of the car. So I set it up, switched to manual focus, set the exposure and shutter, pushed the button and started driving. I made about 10 shots along the way, out of which I liked these four.

Note to myself: make sure to wash the front windscreen even if it looks OK to the eye and try to have someone in the car, who will point the camera lower to the road and not to the dark skies.

At workI was very limited on the time and movement today, but I was hoping to take some pictures. Just to ensure that I have something I’ve made this one with the phone. And than, when I went out with friends, I forgot to take the camera… Damn!

On the other hand, mayb it’s good that I didn’t take since I got drunk and lots of other people joined in, so I could easily lose it or get it damaged by someone curios. There are two sides to everything they say…

KiwiToday’s submission to ‘Fruit Picture of the day’ project is kiwi. I had the idea of shooting a couple of them together – one cut and one untouched – for a couople of days now. When I started the session I realized that I have eaten all of them but one while thinking about composition. Putting just one fruit in the frame wasn’t interesting anymore, so I decided to cut it in two. Then I realized that it is pretty difficult to:

  • adjust your brain to two halfs after thinking about two wholes for a couple of days
  • places items of round forms in exact positions
  • cover up ugly parts of the kiwi fruit when all you have are ugly parts of the fruit

I have taken a total of 18 shots to produce this one picture here. It reminds me of my early computer days when I was making syntax errors in the ifthenelse statement every other day for a few month in a row.
