Hostage (2005)There were plenty of movies today on TV, but I decided for some reason to watch this really bad copy of “Hostage“.

I wasn’t expecting much from this film. I thought it would be yet another attempt to bring back Golden Times of Bruce Willis action movies.

The film turned out to be better than I expected. It was indeed a yet another attempt to bring back Golden Times of Bruce Willis action movies, but it was done right.

Firstly, the story was full of small twists that kept me interested. After watching the first three minutes I thought that I knew all the plot. It turned out that I wasn’t that far from the truth, but the story wasn’t as straightforward as I expected it to be. There was something happening each and every minute of the screen time and this is usually a good thing for an action movie.

Secondly, special effects and computer graphics were much better than in any “golden” Willis’ movie. The film actually felt like it was made in 2005 for once. And there weren’t effects for effects sakes. Everything was shown for the purpose.

Thirdly, previously unseen in Willis films aethetics appeared. There were few scenes that had this strong gothic touch to it. Some of these were even harder than what I could imagine with Marylin Manson in it. (If you saw the movie, I’m talking about the fire in the house.) Some pictures made me go “Wow!”. This is surely a nice addition to a rather simple action film.

Anyway, if you are a fan of “old times” action films, I suggest that you watch this one. Chances are you’ll like it.
