Trip to Kykkos monastery

Kykkos

Today Hazard, his mother and I went for a trip to Kykkos monastery. It is a very known place and a major tourist attraction. You’ll have to drive about 80 kilometers over a serpentine road from Limassol to the direction of Trodos and then some more, but it’s worth it.

The nature is spectacular over those places. The air is fresh and everyone is glad to see another potential customer for a souvenier. I was not ready to treat my shorts for anything else, so they didn’t actually allowed me inside. That is not a problem since photography is prohibited inside – so why go?

I’ve made a whole bunch of pictures and most of them (wow, I am getting good in bright sunlight with a polarizer) turned out good. I have posted them here.

Cryptonomicon

I have just finished reading “Cryptonomicon” by Neal Stephenson. It is a great action book for people interested in technology. There is a lot of stuff about cryptography, UNIX and computers in general, but it is also quiet an entertaining read.

You can read a proper review at Slashdot. There is a website for the book here. You can read few excerpts there aswell.

And, of course, you can get it from Amazon here for a mere $8 USD.

Beer at Molly Malone’s with Hazard

Although I have already mentioned Molly Malone’s Bar and Restaurant, I haven’t done it as often as I visit it. Actually, I believe it just finished it’s way into my Top 3 places to go to for a beer. If you get in before 11:00pm and while being hungry, ask for Steak a’la King. You won’t regret.

Anyway, today Hazard and I went for a couple of beers and while we enjoying ourselves, something happened that deserves to go into annals of history. Hazard finished his pint way ahead of me. I was telling him a long story of “Cryptonomicon” which I almost finished reading by now, and he used it for his advantage. It’s not that we had any competitions or anything, but that I am usually closer to the end of the second pint when does his. Today was an exception and now it is officially written down and dumped on the web for the all eternal life. :)

The Ferrett’s Rules For Picking Up Chicks

Cartoon frame

One of the things that I like about blogging is an endless possibilitiy of crosslinking. I was browsing through Kevin Fox’s blog and found his link to The Ferret’s blog, particularly to this post, where The Ferret writes about his rules of sex, which he thought about after watching this “The 10 Commandments of Simon” cartoon.

Both the post and the comments are an interesting read…
