Upgrading NucleusCMS

As you can obviously see, the site is in the process of being upgraded to a newer version of NucleusCMS. As usual, only after I have started the upgrade, I found out that there is a bug in the backup script provided with the program. That turned into a few interesting hours, when the site was running a combination of few versions of the same software.

Fortunately, all vital info was saved by a number of backup attempts and an extended scripting session. For now, there are few bugs left to squash – comments, fancy URLs, styles (especially image-related stuff).

Update (20 Jun 2004, 01:13pm): I am still fighting with the damn thing. This is one of the painful software upgrades I have done in few years. Lots of bugs. Lots of patching. Off for some sleep. :)

Acronyms and abbreviations

Stands4.com is the biggest collection of acronyms and abbreviations that I have seen so far. It is, in fact, so big that the only way to find something is to use the search. Just to give you and idea – there are 10,100 entries just for the letter ‘T’!

There are few good things to note about this resource. Firstly, it provides acronyms and abbreviations from a range of categories – Computers, Business, Medicine, etc. Secondly, you can easily built a list of entries that you need often. It will be stored with your session and you don’t even have to register and/or login for this. Thirdly, there are international entries, such as in French or Latin for example. Many of these provide a translation into English. And fourthly, not only can your search for the meaning of the acronym or abbreviation, but you can do also a reverse search (in other words, find an acronym which meaning contains the word that your are looking for).

Obsolete Computer Museum

In line with the recent posts about Vintage calculator museum and museum of Soviet calculators, here is a link to Obsolete Comptuer Museum. The older you are, the harder will be that nostalgy feeling in your heart.

Lots of pictures, information, links, etc. There are also forums to unleash your thoughts.

Update: There is also another one – Old-Computers.Com. Some entries here have much more information about the hardware, history, uses, and the like.

About Scotch Whisky

I have learned today that there are more flavours of Johny Walker whisky then I thought. I knew of only Red Label (5 years) and Black Label (12 years). Apparently, there are also: Green Label (15 years), Blue Label (17 years), and Gold Label (18 years). Such a gap in whisky knowledge sent me for a little research on what-n-how.

An excellent site with a lot of information about Scotch whisky is at ScotchWhisky.net. It lists whisky makers, types, brands, bottlers, bars, recipes and coctails that include whisky and much more. The only thing I found missing is the information about Green, Blue, and Gold Labels. Considering the fact that Johnnie Walker website does not work in Mozilla – no surprise.
