Few movie related links

While buliding my “Movies to see” list, I’ve came across a couple of interesting movie related sites.

The Movie Blog which is an “official home of correct movie opinions” has frequent interesting posts with film news, reviews, opinions, etc. MovieHole has also a bunch of news, reviews, and interviews. For those who likes numbers – Box Office Mojo provides a lot of statistics, predictions, and all sorts of other things put neatly into grids and tables.

And of course, IMDB – The Internet Movie DataBase – will always be there with its ultimate collection of movie information.

Movies to see

I am starting to lose track of films that I would like to see. I have them written down all over the place – in my phone’s notes and organizer, in the emails to myself, in the blog, on the numerous pieces of paper everywhere. Some I try to remember…

It is obvious that I will never organize myself to put all of them in one place. Instead I will try to compile individual notes and messages into some sort of heaps. One of these piles will be here. Internet is a truly magical thing and I have it available almost everywhere I go, so it seems like a good idea to use it for this purpose.

Mozilla/Firefox bookmark keywords

Both Mozilla and Firefox browsers have a nice feature that is not so well known. One can assign unique keyword for the bookmark and then use this keyword in the address bar to quickly navigate to the bookmarked site. For example, go to http://images.google.com and bookmark it. Then go Bookmarks menu and select Manage Bookmarks. Right-click on the newly created bookmark and choose to edit Properties. In the Properties window put ‘gi‘ where it says Keyword, click OK and close the bookmark manager. Now, whenever you type ‘gi‘ and hit Enter key while in the address bar, you will go to http://images.google.com.

This is a nice way to minimize the number of clicks you need to perform in order to get to your favourite sites. But it can be troublesome finding unique keywords for your bookmarks. Solving this particular problem is the aim of the “Mozilla/Firefox Custom Keywords Directory” project. They also cover a bit more on what you can do with your bookmark keywords. Check them out.

Site changes

There were a couple of changes here, so I though I would point it out to you to avoid the surprises. :)

  • ‘Scripts’ category was renamed to ‘Software’. It seems more appropriate and widely used.
  • ‘Tips’ category was renamed to ‘Computers’. It will contain all posts related to computers, be that tips, tricks, stories, useful links, or anything else. I have also moved a huge number of posts from ‘General’ to ‘Computers’.
