Buy or rent DVDs online in Cyprus

Good news! Internet is winning the hearts of Cyprus companies slowly but firmly. I’ve came across DVDcy.com today which both sell and rent DVDs online. Price tag of 10 CYP per DVD seems a bit low, but it’s low enough to try it out. :)

The site seems to be new. I’ve checked the Top DVDs section and found only 4 DVDs there. All of them are porn. No surprise here. :)

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!

I was in a mood for a movie, but all theatres were occupied by “Day After Tomorrow”, “Troy”, and “Van Helsing”. But when I have to go, I have to go. :) The best IMDB retated film that I haven’t seen yet that was in the cinema, was “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!“. Considering the quality of comedy-romance films recently, and the amount of them pushed down to us from Hollywood, I didn’t want to go too much, but had to anyway.

The film turned out much better then I expected, but not better enough for me to call it’s IMDB rating of 5.6/10 unfair. It is a typical, predictable, light movie as many others. The guy behind this film is Robert Luketic, who has less then 5 movies under his belt, with “Legally Blond” being one of them. You get the idea. Most of the cast was also new to filmmaking and acting business alltogether. There were only two people who pushed this film up from 2/10 to 5.6/10 – Topher Grace (Pete, the guy who’s silently in love) and Ginnifer Goodwin (Cathy, blonde’s friend). If it wasn’t for them, the movie would have been a total disaster.

Quest for GPS device continues

Magellan GPSGarmin eTrex LegendMy quest for handheld GPS device continues. I have acquired a better picture of the market and of what I really want and need in the device. Currently, the best two candidates are Magellan GPS (picture on the left) and Garmin eTrex Legend (picture on the right).

These two devices are very similar in make and functionality. Forums and reviews that I’ve read split aproximately 50/50 in recommending either one of these. The price difference is not that great also. Garmin’s Legend seems to be $20 USD or so cheaper. Froogle prices for Magellan GPS are here, and for Garmin eTrex Lenend – here.

My previous favorite was Garmin eTrex Vista. Vista is about $100 USD more expensive then Legend. Both devices have the same make and functionality with Vista having some extra memory (24 MB vs Legend’s 8MB), altmeter and compass. I am willing to sucrifice these for 100 bucks though. :) By the way, Garmin website has an excellent product comparison page.

I still haven’t made my mind yet, so any information that can influence my choice is mostly welcome.

Waiters on Wheels

Waiters on Wheels

In times when there is no food at home or you are not in the mood to go anywhere, pizza delivery is the most common (and sometimes the only) option. There is another option for Limassolers, which existed for some time now, but only recenlty came to my attention. Waiters on Wheels.

These guys have made agreements with a number of restaurants and now provide you with a single menu that combines a huge number of choices. You can get anything from traditional Cyprus souvla through steaks to French and Russian food. Soft drinks, beer, and wine are in the menu too. They even offer items which are rearly to be found on delivery menus, such as sweets, cakes, potato chips and corn flakes.

Delivery is surprisingly fast and politely smiling. Waiters on Wheels delivery also to Limassol suburbs like Erimi and Pareklissia. Minimum order is 10 CYP which is more then reasonable. Stuff like corn flakes and potato chips can be delivered to you for 1.25 CYP or free if order some food too.

Add to finish this perfect picture with a nice touch – they have a website, which is actually practically useful and nicely looking. Their printed material is of equal quality. And that is something that you don’t see every day in this country.

P.S.: now did it look like an ad or what? :) Here is a disclaimer – I am not in any way affeliated with Waiters on Wheels. I haven’t been paid or in any other way benefitted from writing the above post. I am just a guy who likes good service, good food, and professional execution. :)
