Getting ready for Artificial Intelligence … again

Being a lazy bastard and a horrible student such as I am, there is no surprise in that I failed so many courses in the college. I am currently standing at 3 courses left for my Bachelor’s degree. One of these three courses – Artificial Intelligence – seems to be the toughest target due to a number of arguments I had with a teacher. And there is no way there will be any other teacher for this course in the near future, so I have to prepare myself real good. It is about time that I start with my morale. :)

Not to scare myself away, I will start small. I will just put three links in this post to other web resources, that I will visit during my preliminary preparations. Here they come:

  • Website of MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory is here. Maybe I will anything entertaining to read in the number of publicationis and researches there that will interest me in the subject.
  • AI on the Web – is a collection of useful links to many AI resources. I am using at as a cheat, since I decided to have only 3 links in this post. :)
  • A Prolog Introduction for Hackers – another useful article at kuro5hin. Last time I took A.I., a substential amount of time was dedicated to Prolog studying without any useful materials provided, so this bookmark should help.

That’s it. This post is my greatest advance in studing A.I. during the last two years. :)

Missing ice hockey

Ice hockey

Staying in Cyprus for more then 5 years in a row makes one miss the winter fun. One of the greatest things I miss here is ice hockey. It simply does not exist in this country. It is even rare to see it on TV here.

Today I came across an article at kuro5hin that explains few basics about ice hockey. Suprisingly, it’s not even so popular in USA as it should be.

Ice hockey
This article, never-the-less, was a good push for me to wonder around the web and to enjoy some excellent resources out there. Here are few links so that you can join my pleasure. :)

First of all, the monsters of ice hockey – NHL. Everything you wanted to know about ice hockey and more. USA Hockey and Hockey Canada are the next two stops. IHWC.net should balance all those to Europe a bit. There is a site devoted to the science of hockey. There you can find few interesting facts about hockey physics, interviews with Sharks, and a couple of videoclips. Some fine images and stories are also available at Hockey Hall of Fame website. A to Z of Ice Hockey covers a bunch of lists of players, games, books, magazines, and DVDs. There is an Ice Hockey Glossary for those who missed a term or two. Hockey Fans website has a more dry look to it, but is full of information about players and clubs. It also features some statistical analysis of NHL.

Now I think you can get the feeling of how much I miss these games’ action. :)

Blog software reviewed

<%image(20040525-slashdot.gif" alt="">

I know I am getting boring with all these links to Slashdot lately, but what can I do? :)

Today, there is an interesting discussion about different blogging CMS software. All started with one guy writing a review of 11 blogging programs. Someone else pointed to CMS Matrix website which allows comparison of a bigger collection of blogging programs. Other people started linking to that and this software packages that do the job. Some even were found guilty of using Slashdot’s own journalling system for blogging.

The software is here. The reasonable answer to the question “Why should I blog?” that would convince everyone to start blogging is still missing. Choose for yourself. :)

Is Bill Gates for real?

There is a nice bit about Bill Gates at College Humor today. These guys are really funny sometimes – check them out more often. They also have a regular update of their movies and pictures collection. Good stuff. :)

Note the link to “Bush is our lord” website on the top of the Hot Links. It’s worth laughing out loud as well. :)

Palme D’Or for Fahrenheit 9/11

Michael Moore

Disclaimer: It’s all over the news, but I’ll repeat it so that I have a handy link to come back later on. :)

Filmmaker and writer Michael Moore, mostly known for his documentary “Bowling for Colombine“, has received a Palme D’Or award – one of the highest filmmaking awards, at 57th Cannes Film Festival for his new documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11“. This new film is strogly anti-Bush. In fact, it is so strong that it was censored and forbidden for distribution in USA.

Here are few links on the subject:

My position on this issue: I’ve seen “Bowling for Colombine” several times, I liked it a lot, and I will buy the DVD one day. It made me want to see Moore’s other films and read his books, but I haven’t got a chance to do so yet. I am eagerly awating “Fahrenheit 9/11” to come to a screen/TV/display near me. :)
