Beaurocracy day. I’ve spend a good half of the day with my brother. He was getting his driving license (for a small motorbike/scooter) and I was paying my road tax, which I am late to pay for almost 1 year. :)

On computer front, I had to replace the home switch back to hub as it was for a long time due to switch’s strange behaviour. I think it went completely dum-dum. It does react properly for any given Ethernet cable in any port, but goes to debug/switch-me-off mode immidiately when two or more of the same calbes are connected to it. Whatever.

Few nice Quake 3 games on a local server. Even a parody on a real TDM game. Quake 3 spirit is hopefully coming back to Cyprus. If not forever than for the coming winter only. :)

apt-rpm

For the last couple of days I played a bit more with apt. This time, the goal was to setup a local repository. There are two excellent documents which together cover everything there is to it: FreshRPM’s guide to setting up an apt server and this Red Hat apt Repository HOWTO. I’ve managed to setup repositories with Red Hat 8.0 and 9 operating systems, updates for them, and appropriate FreshRPMs archives for them. All that is now needed is extensive testing. :)

Went to the movies to see “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl“. Nice movie. Lots of ugly pirates, treasures, fights, and generally anything else one would expect from the pirate movie. It’s actually surprising how few movies there are about pirates. Hopefully, the tremendeous progress of hi-tech will help to solve this problem. :)

In other news – I’ve added a small Quake III section to the site. Couple of config files, few screenshots and demos are all there is, but hopefully that’ll attract more people to Quake III in general and OSP mod in particular. :)
