You have most probably read it already at Slashdot or a number of other places – Mozilla Firefox 1.0 has been downloaded more than 1 million times over a period of just 4 days. The original campaign reserved 10 days for this amount of downloads. With such a hype, can they go over 2 million downloads?
Well, I did my part…. Now, you spread Firefox.
“101 things that the Mozilla browser can do that IE cannot” is an excellent list of reasons to use Mozilla browser instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Of course, some of these reasons can be considered cheats, but still, there is a lot of sense. Forward the URL to people who are on the edge or looking for another browser option. Translations to few other languages are available too.
There are still a lot of people who use Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you are trying to convince them to give Mozilla Firefox a try, then it might be a good idea to point them to www.switch2firefox.com . Everything they need to know is conveniently gathered in one place. There are both theory, in terms of happy customer reviews and lists of reasons to switch, and practice in the way of direct links for downloading Firefox and all the vital plugins, such as Macromedia Flash and Shockwave, Java, etc.
This site covers Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris.
I’ve just came across this story which dates back to 1997. Apparently, immidiately after a release of the new version of Internet Explorer few people got drunk and overproud. So they took the huge meta “e” (logo of MS Internet Explorer), drove it to the Netscape office and left it standing nearby in the middle of the night. Fortunately, Netscape people, who usually work in the middle of the night, noticed the thing. So, they dropped it on the side, painted “Netscape NOW” on top of it, and put their own Godzilla-like mascot over it.
There were a lot of publicity, but I haven’t heard this story before. Maybe you too.
Mozilla Tips is site that collects all those little pieces of information that make life easier. It seems that it had started not so long ago, but there is plenty of stuff already – tips, forums, search, RSS feed, and more.
