And with the current rate of change particular in information technology (IT), there is always something new to learn, to try, to talk about. I often post news, thoughts, and reviews. And when I do, this is the category I use.

I am trying to stop using the “www.” part when typing in URLs. The web has gone a long way and most of the websites don’t need to start with WWW. Just the domain is fine.
But I have been typing “www.” into the address bar for so long that I don’t do it on purpose anymore. My fingers just remember it and use it every time I switch to address bar. I type it even faster than I can realize that I’m typing it. I got better at realizing in the last few days though. Now I catch myself when I’m done only with a couple of first “w”.
It becomes really annoying. Imagine your hands doing something you’ve forbidden them to do. Won’t that freak you out?
When I will finally get rid of the “www.” in my address bar, I’ll start to get rid of “http://”. I know that protocol is much more useful than those stupid domain parts, but when browsing the web, HTTP is the default protocol and even if you don’t specify it, the browser knows ho to handle that.

WordPress has excellent support for SPAM fighting. I was satisfied with the default functionality so far. The only thing I did was setting up pre-moderation of comments that match the list of words.
No SPAM comments were posted on the site since I migrated to WordPress and that says something. I can still remember the pain I had while using Nucleus CMS. At those times all comments were posted straigh away and I had to go find and delete them manually. That was very time consuming and error prone procedure that resulted in a lot of swear words and lost comments.
Anyway, with time I became confident of WordPress filtering and now I think that I am spending too much time pre-moderating comments. Most of them are very obviously SPAM and should be killed upon arrival automatically. Thus, I have used the bigger part of the list mentioned above to filter comments that should be blacklist. That is I won’t even see that the comment was posted if it matches one or more of the words.
Another problem that was annoying me recently is referer SPAM. I am checking the list of refering sites on a daily basis and all those SPAM links break my concentration. To solve this problem I installed the AutoBanReferer plugin.
With all these changes there is a chance that something will go wrong. Either I will be missing comments, or pages won’t be displayed, or I won’t be visiting back to your websites. Nothing in this list scares me as long as you can always Contact Me and let me know that you noticed something malfunctioning.
I’ve been using dante color scheme for Vim for as long as I can remember. It’s a nice one and suits me perfectly. Sometime though I feel that need for a change and than I have to go through a rather painful process of getting something new. This time I decided to change my Vim color scheme. Anyway, I went through a number of color schemes today and decided that I like Impact. Not only it is designed for console, but it also defaults for black background, which is exactly what I use.
I tried it with both Perl files and email messages and I am satisfied with my choice. Now for some useful stuff…
