Down to Earth

Watched “Down to Earth” on DVD. It is a typical Chris Rock comedy. Much of his stuff went in here: jokes about racism, health policies, taxes, and the like.

I cannot call it exceptional. I cannot call it average either. I guess you either like this type of movies or you try to avoid them. I happen to like them. They provide for a good entertainment, easy time spending and they touch on those thoughts you have at the back of you head. Or at least I have at the back of my head.

I’ll rate it as a 6 out of 10. Good stuff.

Angry Alien Productions

Probably everyone has seen these already, but just in case…

Angry Alien Productions host a 30-Second Bunnies Theatre, which is a number of flash movies. Each movie is exactly 30 seconds long and goes over some famous film, such as “Titanic”, “The Exorcist”, and “Jaws”. Once in a while they put new movies out. Lots of fun and definetely worth revisiting regularly.

Samuel L. Jackson

IMDB is a ultimate movie resource. Not only it provides with a quick information like ratings, casts, and production on most movies you will ever going to see, but it also has everything you want to see when following up a movie – soundtrack listings, photos from the set, quotes, discussions of other people who saw the movie, etc. One particular feature that got me interested recently is actor’s biographies. IMDB provides a nicely summed up short biography, with a list of interesting facts from the life of actor or actress, personal quotes, and much such.

I’ll use Samuel L. Jackson as an example to kind of information you can find out without searches, comparisons, and translations. Why him? I find him interesting. I have seen him in many movies and he always delivers good acting. It does automatically mean that the movie he plays in will be good, but at it assures that there will be at least some quality acting. I respect him for that. And I am interested in knowing a bit more about people that I respect.

Twisted

Twisted” on DVD continued my rather prolonged day although it is just before 10:00 in the morning.

I think that this movie is seriously underrated at IMDB. It is a nice crime film with a wicked story, changing pace, good camera work, and a few celebrities in it. Pace deserves a special mentioning. It is kind of slow during the first half of the movie and story unfolds in a way that seems to be very obvious and predictable. Olga even started to get a bit nervous in a way that when all this mess is going to end. But don’t be tricked. There are few changes of perspective along the way. Really. Few. But all of them are tightly packed into the second half of the movie. In fact, now that I think of it, the first half was totally devoted to character development, and the second one – to the story itself. Yup, that is.

There was some good acting delivered by both Ashley Judd and Samuel L. Jackson (why am I still surprised?). Supporting people did a decent job too.

Because I liked the movie and because of the low rating at IMDB, I will give it a 7 out of 10. I think it is worth it.

The Patriot Games

Watched “Patriot Games” on DVD. This is a really good action movie. The old type of action, though. The kind where bad guys piss off the good guy, shoot him, threaten his family, etc, and than this good guy stands up and goes to kick some bad guy’s butt.

Apart from being very predictable and going along the usual lines, this film is very good. It has a good story, wraps everything around CIA and politics, which looks very timely, has a bunch of celebraties (Harrison Ford, Sean Bean, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones) and it does provide for a good entertainment.

I’ll rate this film as 7 out of 10 as it is everything it was supposed to be. Worth a rent surely.
