New York Times runs a good story on Google Buzz. It’s a gentle introduction into what Google Buzz is, and how it compares with some other social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and FriendFeed. If you are still trying to make sense of this whole Google Buzz thing, you should definitely read that.
As for me, I do enjoy Google Buzz quite a bit. It removes the almost unnecessary limit of 140 characters per post, doesn’t limit me to only text, and somehow seems to connect me with just the right people. And what’s even more important, now I get notified of the follow-ups directly in my Gmail inbox.
There are a few annoyances here and there – like seeing follow-ups in both Google Reader comments view and Gmail inbox – but I’m sure they will get sorted out eventually. Overall, Google Buzz is a useful and simple to use service, and I already see that I tend to Google Buzz more than Twitter.
Google doesn’t want you, the geek (if I may use this expression!), to use Google Buzz.
Google wants all gmail users to use Google Buzz. I don’t think that would be the case.
Google wants to take a piece of the pie that is currently being enjoyed between Facebook and Twitter (if they ever find a way to make money). I believe that Google Buzz will be another one of those projects that will go down quietly.
You can find more information in a Google Knol article that my character in Google Lively made after creating a Google Wave and discussing it with other people he met in Google Orkut. Not sure if he post it in Google buzz yet :)
Totally agree.
Only downside I see is people need to get google accounts… something I can’t expect all my friends already on yahoo/facebook to get, so for me its still ‘one more thing’ :) But I’m pretty sure it won’t go down quietly. I couldn’t see much future in Wave since it didn’t integrate with gmail/gtalk, but Buzz has definitely done better, and also integrates with mobile very well… I could Buzz some pics etc recently from my Nokia E71 pretty neatly.
Maan I thought I was a googlarian but hadn’t even known about Google Lively and Google Knol till I read Chrys’ comment! :)
PS: umm ya I vaguely recall seeing Google Lively but had dismissed it as completely irrelevant to me
