Returned to Bloglines

With all the love that I have to Google Reader, I have to say that for the time being I am going back to Bloglines. With 200+ feeds, it is absolutely vital for me to see which topics (feed folders) have new items, and how many of those new items feeds have, so that I could prioritize my attention.

I’ve also did a major clean-up of my feeds. I’ve reorganized the folders and removed a whole bunch of the old feeds that either weren’t updated for more than a month or fell out of my interests focus.

I have a dream: one day I’ll go back Google Reader and it will have all the functionality I need. And it will integrate nicely with other Google tools that I use from my account.

Building bloggers army

I am advocating blogging left and right. My previous campaign was successful, with a few people around starting their blogs, and even maintaining them to this day, and blogging frequently.

It’s time for some “fresh blood”. My first victim is Lana Kurbatsky. Thoughts and ideas in English. Something to read too. And there is a mention of Paul Graham in the second post!

Welcome to the blogosphere, Lana!

On Google stuff. Again.

Although obvious to some, only today I realized that I can use both GMail and Google Calendar via HTTPS (Secure HTTP). And I don’t even have to do anything – just change the URLs from http:// to https:// and it all works like magic. It makes me feel safer, considering the fact that I mostly work from my notebook via unencrypted WiFi.

I still love Google Reader. Although different, and with a learning curve of its own, it works for me. One feature I miss though is the overview. In Bloglines I could take a quick look at the number of new messages for each folder or feed and have an overall picture of where my attention is needed the most. Not so with Google Reader. I can access each feed separately, or feeds under a certain tag, but I don’t have any idea about how many new items I have where. Hopefully they’ll implement something soon.
