Top Ten Stock Photography Cliches

Have you seen any of these images? Have you seen anything very similar?

Do you think cliches are bad and unoriginal? Well, sometimes I wish that more people used cliche images from stock photography collections. Because, many times when they don’t, they decide to make photographs themselves. Really.

Need a quality image for your corporate website? Why hire a photographer or buy image collections? We can do it ourselves. Hold on a second, let me grab my mobile phone – it had a camera somewhere in there. Oh, here it is… Click, click, click. Man, I guess that’s too dark. Light a match or two – we need some light for the mobile phone to see our office building. Yeah, that’s better. Click, click, click. Here, Mr.Designer, take this. You can use this image. And if it won’t work, I’ll call a friend of mine. He has a proper camera. He bought it for a hundred dollars.

Nah… they better use cliche images from those CD-ROMs that are two centuries old and have been reused all over the web…

Bad news: change of IP address

I bring you bad news this time. My ISP informed me that there will be a change to my IP address shortly. This means that there will be an interruption in service of all websites hosted on my server.

I have already intiated some preliminary DNS changes. The biggest changes will take place tomorrow and after tomorrow. I’ll let you know once everything is over.

My appologies for any inconveniences.

Note to myself: Leonid, you should really move all the websites to proper hosting.

Update: There was some misunderstanding. The will be a change of IP address, but not for my home server. Some other piece of network equipment will be changed. The change of IP will be transparent. But, unfortunately, I’ve already did some DNS shaking. Things should calm down a bit. If you notice any malfunction, don’t worry. It should be gone today or tomorrow.

New perspective for SPAM

Not to give anyone any ideas, but I just had an enlightment.

More and more people are using webmail services. Think GMail. More and more advertising is content sensitive. Think GMail. With that in mind, consider yet another perspective for SPAM – sending emails that bring up certain ads, or, rather, increase the chances of certain ads to be brought up.

I guess there’s no way we will ever solve this problem…

Keeping your digital camera safe

Digital Photography School has a nice list of things that can easily kill your digital camera. With all the people around buying new and shiny cameras, I thought it wouldn’t hurt posting a link to the list.

The Digital Camera has a number of natural predators – things that in just a few seconds could snuff out it’s life and render you camera-less. Learn to identify your camera’s predators and take a few simple precautions and exercise a little care and you can keep your camera operating at it’s potential for years to come (well at least until it’s time for an upgrade).

Living in Cyprus, I myself have to particularly care about sand, dust, water and salt. And being a father to a one and a half years old very curious boy, I have to care even more about bumps and drops. Now, what are the major hazards for your camera?

The Ultimate Blog Post

For those of you, who don’t read Slashdot regularly, here is the link to The Ultimate Blog Post, via this article. It’s about blogging, it’s funny, and wasn’t written by Scott Adams. How much more do you need?

“Blog” itself is short for “weblog,” which is short for “we blog because we weren’t very popular in high school and we’re trying to gain respect and admiration without actually having to be around people.”
