Blinds in perspective

Blinds in perspective

Here is something else from the office for the ‘Picture of the day’ submission – blinds. I was pretty amazed by how photogenic blinds are. With the wide-angle lens I didn’t even have to open them to get few nice pictures. I will think of some other ways of photographing them, but for now three pictures will do.

I find the perspective one to be the best, because it has this visual illusion of being not rectangular. Although it is! First time I saw it, I almost broke my head on how I managed to take a non-rectangular picture. I was rotating and adjusting it in Gimp for a couple of minutes. Then I realized that I need more sleep. :)

Drop of water

Drop of water

Today I tried to photograph a perfect drop of water. This is not as easy a task as it may sound. Luckily, I’ve read few tips on how to do it some time ago. Interesting background is easy to make – just rip an advertising page out of some magazine (such as Cosmopolitan) – and you are done. Drops fall fast, so shutter priority mode is preferrable. I shot in Manual (1/200, f/5.6, ISO 100), since Rebel’s metering system was confused about what I wanted to do and overexposed everything way too much.

The only thing which I didn’t have with me was a tripod. Tripod is needed to prefocus camera, since it does a louzy job of finding focus points in the pool of water and some magazine page at the bottom. It always tried to focus on the magazine page. I’ll leave tripod for the next time.

CD-ROM

CDROM

Today I played a little bit with colors of the CD-ROMs. Many people experiment with these. One of the most popular experiment is putting a tiny drop of water on the disk and lighting it from different sources. I realized that I will not be able to do anything with water until I’ll get a macro lens.

Still, the colors are nice. I’ve made about 20 shots out of which I selected three.
