Mark this day in the calendar

I am writing this post to mark today in the calendar forever. Today I have intentionally opened the second browser window. Pre-multi-tab-browsers times don’t count.

I use web a lot, but until today I managed to squeeze everything into a single Firefox window with a bunch of tabs. No problem what-so-ever. Today though, I felt the need for a second window, since I was doing something that required a number of tabs related to this task only. Closing my other window with plenty of miscelaneous tabs didn’t seem like a good idea, so I ended up with two browser windows. Multitabbed. This is the place where 13-year olds usually say “OMG!!!”. :)

mplayerplug-in

By the way, if you are still using an old way of watching movies from the web, which involves downloading a film and than playing it or associating the file extensions with some programs, than you should try the mplayerplug-in. After you install it, your Mozilla browser (yes, that includes Firefox) will play all sorts of movies in a small part of your browser. You will also be able to control it with usual slow motion, pause, rewind, fast forward, and stop buttons, as well as toggle fullscreen mode. Download either a compressed TAR archive, or an RPM for your version of the Fedora Linux. Screenshots are also available from the site.

Tweaking Firefox

I came across an excellent article – “Firefox Tweak Guide” – that shows how to make Mozilla Firefox faster and more convenient. It covers everything: from regular stuff like shortcuts and extensions, to speeding up page loading. It also summarizes a somewhat lengthy tweaking thread from MozillaZine forums.
