It is always nice to know that government cares about people living in the country. We’ve got a check from social insurance today for an unbelievable amount of 235 CYP. This money are aimed as help to young parents with clinic bills. As far as I know, we should be getting some more in the near future.
Category: Cyprus
I live in Cyprus for many years now. It is a beautiful little island in Mediterranean Sea. It features warm weather for most of the year, sea, very kind and hospital people, plenty of jobs in IT industry, good food and plenty of alcohol, stable currency, and more. It’s really a nice place to live if you can handle small towns and villages. It’s also a great place to raise the kids.
Not much happens here. It is a quiet and simple place. Yet, when something happens or when I write about it, I post it to Cyprus category.
Cyprus Independence Day
Today Cyprus celebrates a national holiday – The Independence Day. It is 45 years since British ended the colonial ruling of
the island. If you wish to learn more about the history of Cyprus here is a good place to start. Before the British, Cyprus has been ruled or dominated by Ottomans, Venetians, Byzantinians, Greeks, Hittites, and probably somebody else.
Dogs
Dogs are not something you see every day in Cyprus. A couple of decades ago, dogs brought some serious desease in Cyprus and many people were sick. Many dogs were killed than and some really strict laws were developed to control the migration (import), vaccination, and dog carantine. As a result, streets are full of cats…
Some people still do prefer dogs. Not all of them know how to properly care for one, but they still take them.
Someone came to my neighboors today and brought a dog. They tied it up in the coridor and left it there for few minutes. It started barking and making all sorts of noise. Olga noticed it first it told me. I came out and saw these beautiful eyes. I mean there were really something! White dog, light blue eyes and black border around the eyes – all made me go “Wow!”.

Greece Independence Day
If you are wondering why all the offices in Cyprus are closed today, I’ll tell you. Today is the national holiday – Greece Independence Day. Cyprus has a very strong connection with Greece and celebrates many Greek holidays nation-wide.
There will be a military parade in Limassol on the Makariou III Ave. . I am not sure about the time, but my guess is somewhere around 11:00am. There will probably be something in Nicosia too.
Since I am working in the NOC during the first half of the day, I won’t be able to attend and photograph the parade. If you have any pictures or stories from the event, please post them or link to them via comments.
Sunrise
It has been a while since I photographed the sunrise. I did a lot of them at some point, but then I just couldn’t see anything new in them anymore. This was mostly due to the fact that I photographed all my sunrises from my office window.
Today I suddenly saw a slightly different view. It was there for about two minutes only, but luckily I wasn’t grumpy enough to miss it. I grabbed my camera and made the shot. At times like this I am really proud of myself.
