Usually I am very quiet when I am watching a movie. I am all attention. And I hate it if anyone else makes any noise around. Except for when I am watching a comedy, of course. “Assault on Precinct 13” was no comedy. And I was noisy. After every word and phrase (and I mean every word and phrase, except maybe the opening scene) any of the characters said I was going “Ewww” or “Yuck” or “C’mon!”. I’ll explain myself.
It makes me sad when a good movie is spoiled by little things. I don’t like it when good stuff is wasted. This film particularly is excellent. Everything about is good. Except for the dialogues. Really. I don’t remember dialogues screwed up that bad. Even Russian movies, which are well known for a total lack humanism, aren’t that bad. Both the author and the editor of the dialogues for this film should be sentenced for life imprisonment with mandatory Vogon poetry listening sessions. Daily. Better make it two times a day.
The good thing is that fixing this movie is very simple. Anyone can write a soundtrack these days. If you can’t, you can write some subtitles. Any other words will make this film into a better one. I cut off 3 points in the ratings just for the dialogues. It could have easily been a 7 out of 10 movie.
If you’ve seen this film and think that acting was bad – fix the dialogues. It is impossible to be all natural with that crap. Although Ethan Hawke did the best job out of all the cast.
