It could have been a nice film, but it wasn’t. A pity though since it was missing only small bits.
One thing done right was casting. Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo are all respected actors, who don’t need no introduction and who can do their jobs on a great level. And they did. Unfortunately they were underutilized. The script and the characters were so simple that it almost wasn’t the fun watching. The film was way too predictable and lacked suspense.
I want to separately mention the soundtrack. It felt like the sound editor worked part-time or so. The bits that were there, were excellent. But the problem was that sound background was missing from way too many scenes. Completely. And that was very noticable.
Anyway, I wish there were a bit more effort to the movie. It could have been a real good one. It’s a pity seeing so much potential wasted.
