Blogs in Business Week

Business Week coverYet another proof that blogs are in the mainstream – Business Week has a feature article about them. Read more about it here.

I wonder how blogging will be affected longterm with all the business fuss around it. Anyone who’s been using the web for just a few years knows that whatever gets the attention of commerce gets spoiled and useless. Hopefully, blogs will change that…

Upcoming: Rock-Metal Festival in Nicosia

Rock-Metal Festival in Nicosia

There will be a Rock-Metal Festival in Nicosia’s club “Red” on the 2nd of May, 2005. The program will start with hard rock and will end with death metal. The total of four bands will play – X-Element (starts at 21:30), Aeon (starts at 22:15, this is Andrey’s band with the new name), Crest Fallen (starts at 23:20), and Blood Harvest (starts at 00:00). The tickets are cheap – 4 CYP only for more than 3 hours of music.

Andrey Shvachko kindly lets everyone know that his band will perform a couple of their own songs as well as compositions by such grandmasters as Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Deep Purple, Radiohead, Limp Bizkit, Slayer and Aria (classic Russian grandmaster).

I myself won’t be able to make it, since I’ll be resting from major rocking and rolling at KSP, but I seriously encourage everyone else to go. If anyone knows how to find the “Red” club, please post via comments. Otherwise, Andrey will blog it later and I will repost and translate.

Update: Andrey made it all really easy for everyone and uploaded the map. He also provided the description in Russian here. The rough translation:

if you coming from Limassol, enter Nicosia from the highway and go straight until you come to the traffic light with Ermes (ex-Woolworth) supermarket, which is marked with the red dot on the map. Turn a bit to the right, to have the supermarket on your left hand side and go straight until the T-junction. Turn left, and go until the first traffic light, where you should turn right. Pass the round about with the fontain and drive straight to the downtown. Go straight until you see SAKKIS SNACK on of the junctions and small square around the turn. If there will be any parking place on the square, leave your car there, otherwise follow the signs for the municipal parking. Walk to the further left corner of the square, where you’ll the sign RED at the beginning of the street.

Fighting spam in comments

I’ve been getting some spam in the comments recently. I must say that since the upgrade to WordPress the amount of spam I am getting has drastically decreased, but it hasn’t disappeared. Fighting spam in comments and trackbacks, it turns out, is yet another area where WordPress rules.

WordPress has some built-in mechanisms for combatting spam, as well as a number of external tools, hacks, and plugins.

For the time being, I have enabled premoderation for comments matching certain words. I have also checked all options except for ‘An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)’, which I don’t want to do at the moment.

Let me know if new settings cause any problems.

Update: This is a quick update to let everyone know that changes helped a lot. I am getting all those comments which used to show up in my “Waiting for approval” queue. I mark them as spam and off they go. WooHoo! :)
