Hazard started blogging

I’ve got some really cool news for you. Hazard started blogging. Last time he did it, he used plain text editor and his blog ended up with three posts. He also didn’t want anyone to see it except for a small list of trusted people.

This time, though, he looks serious about it. Check it out here. I’m adding this link to the side bar too.

P.S.: If you think that being lazy counts for an excuse for not starting a blog – not any more. :)

Picture of the day

Light

I decided that feeding you ugly pictures of dirt from my house for three days in a row will be too much. That lead me to an idea of photographing something outside of my house, which I did. Olga and I went for a short walk along the sea line, behind the Park Beach Hotel. It was pretty dark there, but I managed to get a few blurry snaps with ISO1600 setting.

By the way, today’s submission goes into 14th folder in a row and that is, of course, a two weeks mark in my project. Don’t worry, I am not going to stop here. I am just getting all warmed up. :)

ASCII Generator

The times of ASCII as a widely used text format are mostly gone by now. Web is all multimedia. Emails are pretty often HTMLed. Books are in MS Word format or some ebook crap. Documentation is PDFed. Some people do use ASCII (plain text), but they are getting less and less.

ASCII Generator is a lot of fun for those who still use ASCII. It converts a word or a phrase of your choice into a piece of plain text using one of many ASCII fonts. The results can be used on the web, or as a part of email signature.

NOTE: Don’t forget that you’ll need fixed/monospace font to replicate the results in most of the graphical programs. And even than you will most probably still have problems with tabs and spaces. Good luck.

Am I awake?

Since I am posting so much into this blog and doing it all around the clock, some people started to use my blog to help them determine if I am awake or not (in the sense of accepting phone calls or not). That was a rather logical step and I should have covered it earlier.

The trick is really simple. Nucleus CMS allows me to specify date and time when the article should be published. Sometimes I post articles immideately after writing it. Other times, I push them further into the future. To destinguish one from another, just check the time of posting. If the time of posting displayes nice minutes (00 or 30 sometimes), than most probably the article was written in different time from the one it was posted. Most common “pushed” articles appear at 14:00, 15:30, and 16:00.

On the other hand, if the minutes seem random (like 47 or 09), then the article was probably posted immidiately after it was written. You can use this time to estimate if I am awake or not.

Real life example: I am finishing this article at about 23:15 of September 20th. But it will appear on the web only at 01:00 of September 21st, since 20th is already pretty busy with other post and I need a better destribution of posts over days so that you guys will keep coming back regularly.

Thanks for reading.

P.S.: I have also set the time for the future because I will not wait until the new day will come and will go to sleep. :)

New DVD club about to open

One of the ground floor offices in the building where I live haven’t been rented for years. Recently I have noticed some construction work going in there behind the curtained windows. A couple of days ago it became obvious that someone is moving in – most of the walls are painted in bright green. That’s a good enough sign for me.

Today I caught a couple of guys that were working in there and I asked them what they are opening. They said – “DVD club”. Surprisingly, I started to feel very very glad. I don’t know why that happened. I was never excited about someone’s office opening next door. Plus, I do use services of another DVD club which is 5 minutes drive from my place. Anyway, somehow their answer made me happy. I confirmed with them that they are going to rent DVDs and that blew my roof off.

These guys are virtually on the way between my flat and my car. There is no way I can get home without passing by their shop and getting a couple of films to watch. This is so great that I do have troubles expressing it. I guess that makes me a hardcore movie fan.

The works in the shop look to be coming to an end and some furniture is already in place. I beleive that I have even saw a computer box marked with HP today. That means that they are openning really soon. I cann’t wait.

I also hope that since they are a startup they will be more responsive to customer requests such as a website with online catalog and DVD booking system. That is so easy to implement and it makes life so much simplier that I am shocked to see that not so many shops implemented it.
