Oops! I’ve burned my Wavecom Wireless Video Set (just the receiver actually). Just in time – minutes before I’ve rented another couple of DVDs to entertain myself with. No problem – nobody like that wireless thing too much anyway. I’ll be getting myself an upgrade for the ex-home server machine (PII/233MHz), so that I could use it for DVD watching tomorrow.

DVD playback is back
It’s nice to have DVD-watching times back! For more then half a year I was too lazy to repair the machine with the DVD drive. Now it’s back alive and kicking. I’ve also utilized my wireless audio/video extension to watch DVDs on the bigger TV screen in the other room. Am I not hopeless?
Updates
I’ve made lots of small updates and fixes to the home server. Exim 3.13 upgraded to Exim 4.20. Kernel updates. And the bunch of fixes from Red Hat Network.
Home network upgrade
Today I’ve completed the second stage (out of three) in upgrading my home server. First one was upgrading Red Hat Linux 7.3 to Red Hat Linux 9.0. Today, I’ve upgraded the hardware. Now it runs on the Intel Celeron 1.2GHz processor with 256MB of RAM. Upgrade was as simple as moving a bit of hardware around. No reconfiguration needed at all. Red Hat detected all hardware changes just fine.
During the next stage I will move most of the hard disks out of this machine and in to the old hardware, which will be my home file server. That will allow me to upgrade hard disk space easily in the future.
Anyway, enjoy new speeds. Next downtime is in a week or so.
Home server upgrade
Event of the year – started upgrade of my home server (gucho) from Red Hat Linux 7.3 to Red Hat Linux 9. I’ll talk about it when it’s done. :)
