Red Hat promised that today they will release Red Hat Linux 9 for subscribers of Red Hat Nework. Well, it seem they did, since Red Hat Network is completely down. Hopefully, they will fix faster then in one week, since the masses will get to it afterwards.
Category: Technology
I work in technology sector. And I do round a clock, not only from 9 to 5. It is my bread and butter, it is my hobby, it is the fascination of my life. And with the current rate of change particular in information technology (IT), there is always something new to learn, to try, to talk about. I often post news, thoughts, and reviews. And when I do, this is the category I use.
Programming
Today was a very productive day. First half of the day I was doing PHP programming like mad. Second half of the day – perl. Perl feels like a releif after PHP. Hashes, regexps with =~, proper foreach loops…Yummy! Moved some of the production staff off from my workstation onto a server (poor thing!).
Random bits
Lots and lots of PHP programming today. Mostly boring staff. Finding a formula for calculating the date/time for the Monday of the current week got me a bit puzzled, but that was mostly tiredness, then tough task. :)
In other news, albums in Photo section were changed to appear in chronologically reversed order. This way, there is no need for scrolling pages down for the recent staff.
Microsoft weekend
Heh, one of those office Sundays. Our MS Exchange admin screwed up Active Directory a bit, so few of us spent a day in the office trying to fix it. No luck, until another expert came from Nicosia. Even he agreed afterwards that simplicity in Unix design is attractive and sexy.
Hard day at work
What a day!
After a prolonged power failure in the morning, air conditions in the server room failed. Within minutes temperature reached 50C and more in some areas of the room. One can only imagine the temperature on chips. All our IBM servers didn’t like the weather and went to automatic shutdown. Compaqs didn’t shutdown, which makes me wonder if they actually got this feature.
Rest of the day was dedicated to MS Exchange fights… again. A zillion or two of little problems make an overall bad impression.
