OTRS

Two of the most frequent programs that get mentioned in bug/ticket/issue tracking discussions are RT and Bugzilla. Bugzilla is more oriented towards software development and technical personnel, while RT is more business oriented and for non-technical personnel. Recently, though, I am hearing about ORTS pretty often.

OTRS – Open Ticket Request System. It looks like it is very similar to RT with queus, templates, and other stuff. It is written in Perl and was tested on a number of platforms. Check it out if you are in need.

Via comments to this note at PerlMonks, I’ve learned that Class:: DBI actually has its own website. There you can find all sorts of useful stuff from links to plugins (!!!) for this module, to links to articles about the module, and even a cookbook. Now this is one proper way to maintain a module!

On technical support

It is a well known fact that technical support personnel has to answer most stupid questions out there on planet Earth. Well, sometimes, in order to minimize the number of such questions they create Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) lists, Knoweldge Bases, and other sections on their websites. I’ve got an excellent example of this in my inbox today:
