Photo Friday has an excellent monitor calibration tool online. It is simply a picture with varying shades of black and white that helps one to adjust contrast and brightness controls of the monitor. Simple, yet effective.

I love photography. For me, it’s like painting, but better. And more accurate. And unlike painting, I can actually participate. I am not a big success or great master by any means. But I enjoy taking pictures. I also enjoy looking at other people work and sometimes sharing it. When I do, this is the category that I use.
Photography Composition Articles Library
One of the main components of a good photograph is composition. Composition can make all the difference between a yet another boring picture and an award winning image. If there is one thing to learn about taking better pictures, I’d say it would be composition, since the rest is nicely taken care of by modern digital cameras.
And if there is one resource to learn composition, I’d say it would be Photography Composition Articles Library.
Maxim halfsmiling
Maxim’s smiles are spontaneous and thus hard to catch. Here is one half of a smile that I manage to photograph today.

On the way to church
One of the most picturous subjects in Cyprus (and in Greece for that matter) are old ladies dressed all in black. They can usually be seen in the villages and/or on the way to/from church. Since I am a bit shy at photographing people (other than my friends and relatives), I’ve never even attempted to make a picture of the “black grandma”. Today I saw one on the street going to church while I was driving home from work. I decided to photograph her. I stopped the car, shot the picture, jumped in the car and went away in a hurry. The picture came out pretty much OK, but I have to calm myself down more next time.
