Lots and lots of music radio stations that broadcast over the Internet can be found at www.shoutcast.com. One can search by location or by the genre of the music. I’ve tried a couple of stations and they seem to play nicely with around 128 Kbps bitrate. Nice.
Category: Music
I am not a big music fan. My music tastes are far from developed and original. But still once in a while I feel like sharing a tune. This category is mostly used for my rare music moments.
webby_m3u
Today I have found a really nice way to listen to my home mp3s at work. All I needed to do is share my music directory via web and generate an m3u playlist with URLs to files. m3u playlist than could be downloaded and fed to XMMS, where I could select songs to play. It is also nice to use random playback until I find something I am in the mood for and than switch to sequential mode.
Anyway, I wrote a small Perl script to generate an m3u playlist. It dives into some directory recursively and correctly escapes all the URLs. Check the few configuration variables in the beginning of the file.
The Blue Highway
I found an excellent resource about blues – The Blue Highway. It has everything from blues history and essays about musicians and their work to radio broadcasts, links to other places, and buying guides. A really really nice place on the web. Although they could have got some help with web design.
Joe Satriani guide
Eric S. Raymond who is more widely known for his Open Source Software advocacy, has written an excellent post in his blog. It is about the work of a great guitarist Joe Satriani. Eric comments on all Satriani albums, making it really easy to understand the work and experimentation of the musician.
I have only two Satriani’s albums – “Flying in a Blue Dream” (1989) and “Engines of Creation” (2000). I’ve heard few other tidbits, but nothing that I can organize in my head or comment on that I remember. Eric’s article makes me want to get some more Satriani music. Links anyone?
Philips SBC-HP800 Hi-Fi Headphones
Olga gave me a somewhat early St.Valentine’s Day present – Philips SBC-HP800 Hi-Fi Headphones. These will help me to be more productive in the office, isolating my ears from all the noise there.
If you are interested, here are the specs from the box:
- Frequency range: 10-28,000 Hz
- Sensitivity: 10dB
- Impedance: 32 Ohm
- Cable: 3.0 m
- Maximum power input: 1500 mW
- Weight: 206 g
There is nothing much in the box – just the speakers and the standard 3.5mm to 6.3 mm adapter.
I like the sound a lot and the headphones are very comfortable to wear. Let the mp3 times begin. Again.
P.S. The picture was stolen from here.
