CYLUG – CYprus Linux User Group

Somehow I managed not to mention CYLUG – CYprus Linux User Group here for some time. Correction the situation…

CYLUG, like many other Linux User Groups (LUGs), is about helping people to find answers to their Linux-related questions. CYLUG does have a website, an active mailing list, a set of projects, and even hold meetings, though a bit rarely.

Mailing list is a rather low traffic one, but offers some fast responses. Few real Linux guru that I know are subscribed to the list and generously offer their help. There is even a choice of languages that you can aks you question in – Greek or English. English provides with a wider audience, but Greek is still the only option for a number of people seeking help.

Show laces and knots

How many ways do think there to lace your shoes? I thought thre were about 3: one way is like they do it in the shop, which you can see when you buy new shoes; another is like I do it – left over right, right over left, left over right, etc; and another one like some cool sport guys were doing it – with laces appear only as horizontal stripes. Well, there are a few more.

How many ways to think there are to tie your shoe laces? I thought there were two: one way like I do it, and another which you use before going to the rock concert, which envolves a lot of knots and duct tape. It turns out, that I was wrong again.

Now we can all go practicing our mad skills of shoes lacing and knoting. :)

Doom 3 news

I’ve been very busy at work for the last few days and somehow managed to miss Doom 3 announcements all over the web. If you did too – here is a round-up…

Id Software actually finished Doom 3 and sent it to the print. It will be available around the world starting from 5th of August this year (less then 3 weeks left). Slashdot story on the announcement is here.
There also an updated story here, which links to the blog entry of Todd Hollenshead of Id fame.

Doom people should run as fast they can into hardware shops to upgrade their PCs. I myself will wait for Quake IV. :)

Minor downtime

There was a minor downtime today, but you shouldn’t have noticed anything. Apparently, last time when I was fixing sound on the server, I misplaced the IDE RAID controller card. Since then there was no music in my house. Today I got really bored with it and the number of requests from my wife approached the critical number, so I decided to fix it.

Overall, the machine was down for about 5-10 minutes. Everything is in perfect condition now and I am not expecting any other downtimes any time soon. Enjoy. :)

If These Walls Could Talk 2

Coninuing today’s TV session, there was an excellent piece called “If These Walls Could Talk 2“. It’s a film, which is about evolution of society in regards of women independence and lesbian issues. It pictures three stories, one that happens in 1961, another in 1972, and the last one in 2000. It is the best film I have seen on the subject so far. Strongly recommended.

If you by any chance wonder if they show any sex and boobies in there – they do. But it’s not a porn film by any means. Sweet though. :)

Meanwhile I’ll switch the TV off and go rate this piece on IMDB as 8 out of 10. Bed time.
